Green terror questions and hello

What do you guys think of Odessa barbs? I really like the look of them plus one of my lfs has them, and they are black with a vivid red stripe. But then again one I google them, they seem rather pale? Would they be big enough for the bichir?

i didn't mention this, but I thought it's kinda obvious. I Don't want to see any nipped fins on the GT.

I have very bad experience with tetras. I had many from cardinals to silver dollars (that's why I don't want them) and they would always either destroy my tank by eating the greenery or nip my show fish, or be eaten. And that's always after doing quiet a bit of Reaserch. That's 8 years of experience talking :)

No experience with Odessa barbs. I think the GT would be fine with tigers, tigers keep most aggression to themselves in larger numbers. How much are they in the UK? Roseline barbs and Pink tail chalceus could be cool too, more pricey though. Buneos aires tetras get to be a decent size for tetras, you probably saw small ones. You could always do some female convict cichlids or firemouth cichlids.

My Bruno's ares are 3-4". I'm convinced my Senegals wouldn't hurt a fly. But my 12" lapradei is another story. My experience is that bichirs are such peaceful fish. Wouldn't harm a fly. But that could be just mine. What about some synodontis. I guess it depends what you're looking for. But they're always nice if you can find an active one. Roseline Sharks could be good but they're expensive. I still say buenos ares. I love mine. Very interesting fish. L

They differ in price from £2 each up to £7 but that's from only 5 lfs where I've noticed them. They are quiet decent looking guys and I wouldn't mind having a school of them as long and they don't cause any trouble.

Torpedo barb thingys are like this cool! But like you said these guys are rather expensive! Well they are £7 in one lfs but doing the maths a group of 5 would cost me around the same as a group of 10 of tiger barbs :/

My previous post was about tiger barbs. Catfish? Well I wouldn't mind having a scavenger roaming around but that's a different story haha. I don't want to over stock the fishtank. So I want to go step by step, rather than getting my hopes up and coming up with fancy fish that I won't be able to keep due to bioloid and territorial needs of my main fish to be :)

buenos ayres look good but to be honest I have never seen them in any lfs around , I saw them back at home - Cambridge but not where I live at the moment :( I'll go and have a good look on Monday :)

Just in regards to Senegal bichirs growing slowly, mine has grown from four to six inches in just the past month. And eaten one of my boesemani rainbows. I'm not sure if they grow quickly up to a certain point and then slow down, but two inches in a month doesn't seem very slow growing to me.

There is always a risk mixing Tetra and Cichlid together. Also, depend on each fish personality so everyone can have a peaceful life or just a nightmare with GT. Peoples named it "Green Terror" for a reason :) hehehe
I used to keep a Jaguar Cichlid (male) with a group of Exodons and they are fine, the weaker one will get eliminate from the tank (slowest growing Exodon will get eaten by Jag). My Jaguar Cichlid is truly King of the tank and look beautiful with a shoal of Exodons (Jag leave Exodon alone after they are at 3.5 ~ 4 inches and at that time my Jag was 10 inches).

I am definitely leaning towards the tiger barbs. On the video they seemed really interesting yet nowhere near as cool as the GT! Although his colours were washed out but i believe it was the fact that the tank was so bright.

As to the size, I'm not sure... 2 maybe 3 inches? The dude in the store said he got 3 by mistake/ Or they got mixed up while ordering different fish. Apparently these species look alike when they are babies. The bichirs are about 4inch from pets at home but they only had one left and he didn't look too good so I'm gonna wait for my trusted lfs to order one for me (it adds to the price, but I trust the dude and no fish have ever died from him, while I had losses from other shops)

Anyhow, jag cichlids are amazing! I wish I could have a huge fishtank so that I could keep any fish that I want! Haha in the future I want to have 100s of fish tanks with each having different speeches combos in! And some planted communities, and malawis and all cichlids of the world!!! Oh I wish my angels were still alive, I don't know if I ever find a fish to prep lace them. But, for now, I am stuck with the 4ft and my GT to be! Hahaha
