well its just they offer you sound advice, and you go completely against what they advise...so they might get a little adgitated. its obvious you dont want to listen to what people have to offer, weather they are experianced or not, and you are fixiated on what you are getting. so..we cant help you..

A 55gal. is not a very big tank to stock a lot of large fish. You may have to stick with the smaller cichlids until you can get a larger tank. With the two gar, you will need a larger tank anyway. I would definitely stay away from any aggressive large-growing cichlids. They will behave when small but as they mature they will fight in such a cramped tank.

I for one am no expert at fish keeping but I do know that alot research, reading, and asking questions is must, just like other hobbies. But why come on here and ask questions on a topic if you have no intentions of listening to others responses. You come on here to ask others advice and opinions on a specific topic and they give you an answer that they themselves have already experienced or knew someone who had. These people have no reason to lie to you or give you false information since its only benefiting YOU. I know there are fish out there that you "wish" you could have, as we all. But why jeopardize the fish by putting them in a smaller tank just for your entertainment. I understand the urge to buy fish, but always keep in mind that these are animals and need to be treated with some respect. If you cannot put the fish you are looking or in the tank you currently have then you could either 1.) buy a larger tank or 2.) settle on another group of fish until you have the time, money, space, and resources to house your prized fish. As a matter of fact, you should be pampering your prize fish not hampering its health and stunting its size. I know this isnt what you want to hear but its the truth....

instead of all this, try doing a community of maybe 6 different medium cichlids that only get to like 6"

example: salvini, convict/pink convict, rainbow, a smaller pike, blue flash aureus, with a bushynose pleco

Or, like I've already told you, an mbuna community, which you can overstock so long as you keep up with water changes.

i listen to what everyone is saying i just want to get as many opinions as i can on it. when someone says no i just imeditly stop thinking that i could do that i wait and want to her what other people have to say first before i make the choice. and i never said that's what i was getting. i was just looking at it as an option just because i ask about something doesn't mean im going to do it. and i want to take good care of my fish i just want to find out what one i can have first and explore my options.

just because they dont have 2000 post doesnt mean they dont know anything
Did I say it did? No, I didn't. I just said that they haven't been on here as long, and those who haven't been on here as long are less likely to know as much about the hobby as those who've been here for over a year. That's a simple fact. On here, there are thousands of very experienced fish keepers willing to share their knowledge, whereas you may find a few dozen elsewhere (if you're lucky). Being as such, one can gain years worth of knowledge just by participating in the forum and reading through some old threads, and the longer you participate in the forum, the more knowledge you gain from it. I probably learned more here in my first 6 months than I did in my previous ~10 years of keeping fish, so yes, I am a firm believer that those who have been here longer are most likely more knowledgeable than those who have only been here for a matter of days or weeks.

That is exactly how I feel, but I have a hard time just giving up on it.

IME GTs display about average cichlid temperment nothing crazy like RD/Midas or anything parachromis dont think they really should be called "terror". They are nice looking fish. Red terror are much more aggressive but only when mature they are quite shy when young
