I bought him at 3" in November 2004, so it took about a year and a half for him to reach 8.5" TL.

He lives in a 55gl alone because he killed his female partner last month .

Festaes and Gold Saums are my favorite fish right now.


As far as aggression, either one of my festaes would destroy the GT IMHO. My festaes when pissed start to descale the enemy in seconds !

They are definately a beautiful fish as far as colors they are my favorite. But when it comes to aggression and growth rate they are on the lower side of the scale compared to other aggressive cichlids. They grow really slow, i've had mine for almost a year and he's barely pushing 5.5".....The few that i have owned also got beaten down by smaller JackDempseys and Salvini's....My Salvini damn near ripped the lips off my GT. They lack the teeth and Jaw power that most other aggresive cichlids have. GoodLuck with yours.....

Mine grew fast. Got his bottom lip torn off by my JD though

they are mega common here in canada. favorite female ive ever owned was a gt.

I believe for a GT to be truely at his best you need to house him in a situation where he is the boss. I strongly suggest that you keep them away from more powerful cichlids like RD'S,Trimacs,Jags etc...

If that's a true rivulatus then what are the gold/white saums exactly?

Or is that simply a wild caught specimen and we have mass captive bred ones?
