What are good tankmates for green terrors?

would a salvini be able to hold his own?

Ive heard mixed reviews about oscars being good/bad tankmates, what have people experienced?

With thanks
Matt

It depends on the personality of the fish but a Salvini will hold his own against a GT.
How big is your tank?
I don't think oscars would be good tank mates but thats just my opinion.

erm, the tank they will be going into will be a 75USG but long term will be going into a 100/125USG, that would be adequate wouldnt it?

Cool thanks, what other possibilities are there for GT tankmates?

Thanks
Matt

i have a female midas but i think it may be the exception to the rule with that one. i also have bichirs but in the past i have kept:
oscars
firemouth
cons (too nippy IMO)
parachromis loisellei
uaru A.
gold severum
clown loaches
rainbow fish
some sort of garra (GT was 4"+ and the garra was 1")
when my 150 is delivered this month i will be adding a freddy or loisellei and more bichirs.

with the larger footprint of the 125 you open up a whole host of new additions as long as your GT will tolerate them by the time you have the 125.
if the 125 is availible or you dont have the fish yet but your planning on the 125 in the next couple of months then i suggest filling the 125 from the start. rather than stocking the 75 with stock for a 125 and then your circumstances change and you cant afford the 125.
with the worst case you possibly have to find homes for a few potentially aggro fish.

I have a 110 gallon with a green terror, a jack dempsey, and an oscar. I've had all of them together since they were very small and I have a lot of "territory breakers" and hides-- pvc tubes covered in plants, rocks, etc. I've had them for years, and they've done fine. YMMV.

In my 55g with my GT i have:
1 Polypterus delhezi
8 Giant danios

And i want to get some loaches or possibly a crenicichla. If it is going to fight with him, there are going to be problems. Fish that are comparable in size that swim in the same strata as him will fight.

My Oscars got their arses handed to them by a GT that was about 1/3 of their size.

this isnt necessarily a rule. it all depends on your GT's personality. any type of tankmate depends on the individual fish when it somes to large cichlids. tankmates will be trial and error, only you know your fish so you can but try. just have a contingency plan should your GT decide to be a thug.

Fishaddict: i hope you have more luck finding large loaches to house safely with your bichir than i have. i would love more clowns but i cant find any 6"+ ones in my area.

Very true. Some GTs are very docile and wont hurt a fly meanwhile like my GT it will kill anything that gets in it's way. The bichir have is such a lazy azz. but i agree, maybe i should stick with a crenicichla.
