thanks thats a good call, i think ima do that, thanks Sarah :)

btw, does anyone know the grow rates on these guys?

Thanks
Matt

i have always achieved and still i am getting about 1" per month. this is apparently a good rate for GT's as i have read many posts stating how slow they are to grow.
once they hit 6" or so they slowed to about 1/2" per month, i am expecting the same results with my current GT.

Cool thanks, thats a pretty good rate!

what are you feeding them?

Hopefully i'll be able to acheive that and get him big :)

Thanks
Matt

Had a GT that dominated the tank and the Oscar was twice the size of the GT.

Had to give away the GT since all the other fish had to hid in corners of the tank to escape the terror.
Same here, I would want the Oscars to be considerably larger than the GT if I were to try that again!

See the little guy at the back? He dominated the two O's at the front of the pic even causing damage to them before I had to rehome him! The O's colours are now much darker now that they can enjoy more than one corner of the tank without being beat up on!

i have fed in the past tetra prima (aka tetra diskus), algae wafers and frozen bloodworm.
I now feed hikari cichlid gold (sinking) as its less crumbly than prima, spirulina pellets, earthworm pellets, frozen bloodworm, crickets, mealworms, raw prawn and squid.
all my fish seem to have gone off the prawn and squid for the minute though.

30-50% water changes weekly. genetics play a part too but you have no control over that bit.

all in all nothing special to grow them, just a varied diet and good water quality. like you would do with any of your fish.

Cool, thankyou for all the help, ill give him a varied diet and get him nicely coloured and big and strong :)

i think i want to do a m/f pair of red severums? would that be ok? or would there be too much agression if the sevs bred? i dont want the sevs to breed, they get agressive towards the GT then get their ass' kicked!

Thanks
Matt

i would think that should be ok in the 125 because of its far larger footprint than the 75.
i personally wouldnt do it in a 75 though because its only 4ft long and 1 pair of 8" cichlids would probably claim that whole tank. but i have no experience of red sevs or breeding pairs of sevs so i am unsure of how aggressive they are when they breed so its just my opinion.

Personally I have had little trouble with my terror and his two oscar buddies. They are however a good 3 inches bigger than him right now and the more agressive of the two will occasionally chase the gt but it never really gets out of hand. The odd missing scale and thats about it.

Salvini are to aggressive for Gt's unless you have alot of space

That's been my experience as well with Salvinis. I have a Sal isolated now cuz she was bullying a juvi Lutino O and fighting with my 5" male JD. This was in a 75G. I moved them all to a 150G except for the Salvini. She goes in today. Fingers crossed.

Salvini's are generally very tough and fairly aggressive fish. That said, I think you have a chance for a good match for a GT if they can have there own space. My female Salvni loves to infrnge on other's space. ;)

What are good tankmates for green terrors?

would a salvini be able to hold his own?

Ive heard mixed reviews about oscars being good/bad tankmates, what have people experienced?

With thanks
Matt

thanks for all the feedback, i think ima skip the sev's but am not sure, (would a m/m or f/f pair work?) im still not sure on the sal front although it im thinking of chancing it, just to chuck somethine else into the mix my friend said an EBJD would go well, have done my research and would really love one of these guys :)

so at the moment im thinking:
GT
EBJD
Sal

what do people think?

cheers
Matt
