does anyone know anything about them? all the research i've done is pretty vague. mine are acting strange, showing symptoms of Swim Bladder Disease. (heads pointed down once and a while)
but other than that they swim around fine and eat well.
plus one of them seems a bit fatter than the others? could it be pregnant? or am i just imagining things?

also.... i have ich right now, which i am treating. could this have to do with why they are acting that way?

let me know please....

I have green, gold and normal tigerbarbs... I love them. When they start tilting head down its often because the water has become too acidic, at least for me here as we are in a very soft water area. Check your water parameters (that could also explain the ich) and if its too acid slowly chuck in some baking powder ant they should stop tilting.

Barbs sometimes swim at odd angles, unless it is consistent and they appear unable to right themselves chances are they're facing that direction because they want to. Also, female barbs will appear plump side to side when they are ripe with eggs. Barbs don't get pregnant though, just gravid. They are egg scaterrers so if conditions are right a male will squeeze the eggs out of her and fertilize them. Without a proper setup though none will survive.

baking powder? how much? i have a 20 gl. ...

would it be alright to put some baking powder in the water with the heat its at? ( 87 f. )

my water test came out fine....
my water is actually more alkaline than acidic.
an my total alkalinity (kh) is high
how can i change that?

hmmmmm barbs get heavily set anyway, the fat one is probably dominant or a female,
to get the alkaline down, add some bogwood, should do the trick:) as tehy like a ph of 6.5 to 7 and soft water so that'll be ok for that. how often and how much water change?

bogwood? humm i dont know what htat is....

i change about 25% of the water a week.
yesterday i changed 50% of the water because my fish other fish (not the tiger barbs) have ich.

If its alkaline, dont add the baking soda, all it does is reduce the acid.

yes it should be fine to add your bogwood while treating, just make sure that you remove active carbon from your filters before using medication, as the carbon, stops any effect the med has
