Green Tiger Barbs (HELP)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tiger barbs hide usually in a nose down position, from the dominant one when she gets in her(i think) agressive mood. They get behind the filter intake and can stay that way for quite a while. Later on they all start swimming in a school.

yes it should be fine to add your bogwood while treating, just make sure that you remove active carbon from your filters before using medication, as the carbon, stops any effect the med has

thanks:)
i bought some wood, it isnt called bogwood, its just called natural mopani wood, is that the same thing.... sorry if that sounds like a stupid question...

so my filter bag has carban in it, should i just take out my whole filter bag.... will that be ok for my tank?
how can i better go about doing this?
since i am doing the heat and salt methed anyways, should i just lay off the meds all together, wait and see if the ich starts clearing up?

don't put meds in yet, just keep up the heat and salt. It may appear the ich gets worse, but then it should get better right after it gets worse.

My tiger barbs are pretty fun to watch. Every now and then one of them challenges the dominant one and the dominant one flies around nipping all the other tiget barbs and has his dorsal fin sticking straight up.

well i had already put in a dose of the meds. but im NOT going to put in any more at all.
yeah they are pretty cute huh
i am super happy i got them, i got all the last they had at the lfs.
i hope they make it.
just got some good wood to put in the tank, which will help with the alkalinity right?
its soaking right now gunna put it in later when its ready.....
other than that just haven the heat up.

for treating the ich, i only add the salt dosage once (at the recommended pace that is) but after that i dont put more salt in right?

Mine are actually some kind of half tiger half green barb. They have the stripes and some patches too, they look weird haha. But back to the point, my dominant fish always has the bright colors, the rest seem to fade when she is in that mood. And on occasion she actually gets piece of their fins. The dominant one always has nice fins and good colors, the rest vary.

One salt dose is all. Are there any other fish in the tank?

yea there is :
one pictus catfish
one rainbow shark
and one other kind of catfish that i dont knwo the name of
acts like an upside down cat, but doesnt look like one.

lol

thank you all for the info

you keep putting salt in whenever you do a water change to keep a constant salinity level. Like if you put 3tsp a gallon, just add 3tsp a gallon for your water change. (take 5 gallons out, add 5 gallons of water with 15tsp in)

But i don't know what salt level to use for ich because i've never really had to battle it, so go with whatever you've read for that.

driftwood or bogwood won't increase alkalinity, it will decrease it. But alkalinity has nothing to do with why your barbs are and a slant. Most likely, they just feel like being at a slant. I know my barbs occasionally are slanted, and they are fine and have been fine for quite a while. Still, driftwood or bogwood is nice decor and goes good with just about anything, not to mention my tiger barbs like it to swim around and chase each other through.
