Green Tiger barbs weak?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, unfortunantly they are known for that. I had a pugnatious male that was tough with the 5 tiger barbs he was with in the 55g grow out tank. However, with some dovii that we alittle smaller then him he was a winp against. If it wasn't for a female salvini that descided he was her mate he would have got bullied more. She kept the whole tank in line and no one messed with her man. lol
Bodyguard technique. Nice.

Sry bro, but there are way too many people unwilling to listen. I dont doubt the incredibly vast knowledge throughout the mfk community but when somebody calls me a liar, about tiger barbs, its like wtf? Just because something happened a certain way in your tank doesnt mean it will always happen that way. Ecpecially when we are talking about unpredictable fish like barbs and cichlids. My female Gt was prly 2.5in at the time and the barb 1-1.5in. In theory, yes a gt will murder a barb. But that doesnt matter when the barb is comepletly agressive, she would rather hide from it then fight it. It nipped her she ran and it chased her. Nothing i have said is so farfetched to be considered bs. Youve been trying to twist my words. Im not some kid trolling around mfk spreading bs, i know my fish.

All the shreading talk and comparing them to a Piranha is where I am calling foul. Never twisted your words, never called you kid. They just don't have the teeth for the things you said. Video again proving they don't have this "shredding" ability to take out "chunks" of the actual fish at will. Fin nippers yes, Piranha like barbs with "shredding teeth no. Sorry Sarah for derailing your thread. Trying to keep it civil.

its ok but yeah i agree, when i had just 3 adults together they would dart around and quickly go after the cichlids and bite from their tails or dorsals and were vicious about it but never took bites out of their actual bodies. and they would even come and bite at the small brown mole spots on my arms whnever i was trying to do a waterchange and it was a little bit of a pinch but nothing that ever even remotely took away any skin and they would be tearing at them too and do no damage.

and hey how do you tell their genders? i always just bought whatever group the person could catch and put them together and they always did fine, never really paid attention to gender but guess especially with these weaker greens i should probably make sure i have a good ratio of males to females

i have 8 barbs(5 tiger, 3 albino) with a leopard puffer and i have no problems whatsoever. when the puffer first got in both parties nipped at each other for a moment then backed off and now all get along. I have had no problems with my barbs killing each other and they have been together for a few months.

Greens and Regulars the males Anal fin has tons of blakc on it. Females its almost solid red. Still trying to find out how with Albino/Gold morph. Females are also chubbier/rounder with a larger bellies. Males tend to have a taller build, and more of a lean look. Males also get roosie noses when mature and in breeding/agression mode.

oh ok kewl thanks, yeah i think most of mine are females then which is a good thing :)

and smarchant, thanks for the input, yeah im pretty sure from what others have been saying that its just the greens being a weaker strain and just dying easier and not necessarily that they are being killed by the regular ones or anything like that,

yeah im gonna try and return the ones that died this coming week, so far the one that is left is staying strong, so hopefully their new shipment are a bit better off and will have better survival rate...

Took me 8 returns and still waiting to see if these hold. I think I am clear though, no deaths in over a week. Those two males of mine are still rulling the group though acouple Albino's and a Green seem soon to be contenders. These two though seem to definently be battle worn and are non stop testing each other. I also beleive most mine are females. Only one more of the Regulars might be male and he is the smallest.

Sara, Scott you know I'm not a barb fan but they do look nice if you can stabilize them. Little butt munchers. I'd rather go with BATs or some other large Tetra. Scott to you bud happy 4th, GO AIR FORCE! From an ex staff in the 82nd "ALL THE WAY" God Bless America!
