I have two tanks that have been setup for a good 6 months now and both of them(75 and 54 gal) have terrible green water to where I can hardly even see the fish unless they're right up front. As I'm typing I have my 75 emptying.I took the single Dovii out and put a quarter or so cup of bleach in there and let it cycle before emptying it.Im gonna fill it back up with hose water, empty it again to get as much bleach out as possible then refill it and treat the water. Is this logical or not?I've had tanks for 15 years or so and never really had this problem. Please help!!

Rinse the tank out, then do it again, and again, and again.......
I would not put fish in until it completely dries out.If any bleach is left,it should evaporate. A UV sterilizer will take care of a algae bloom.Leaving the light off and keeping direct sunlight out will do the trick too.

a quick and cheap fix would be to us Seachem Purigen. however, its best to figure out whats causing the problem and fix it that way.

what are ur water parameters?

filtration?

water change regime?

lighting and light duration?

is the tank near lots of windows?

other quick fixes would be to use a diatom filter or UV sterilizer.

15 years of fishkeeping and all you could come up with was to put bleach in the tank........... srsly..........

The few times Ive had green water I doubled the filtration, and did 2 90% waterchanges a day apart and it was gone.
Deaths sting is right though, with the info he asked for someone could figure out why its happening.

Actually,it wasnt the only thing I came up with but the most logical. The bleach will obviously kill all of the algae and to empty it and refill it then treat it to kill any bleach left over,I think, would do the trick perfectly fine.I like how some people like to try and put other people down because they think it makes em look smart, maybe some exercise and ditching the +sized girlfriend will help you lighten up a bit...

To the rest of you who shared your helpful information,i appreciate it.Im sure everyone knows its not always easy to just run and buy a uv sterilizer. Thanks

Well since you already bleached one tank dont do it to the other one, since the water is very green you need to do a nice water change & test your water for everything and try to keep the tank in the dark throw a black blanket over it and dont turn on the lights for a few days, but if you want a quick fix use algaefix i dont recommend it but it is better than bleaching the tank

I've pretty much already tried that and it hasn't worked so much.I have one one fish in the 75 and 5 young dovii and 2 axolotyls(1" or so) in the other.I clean the tank multiple times every week and use algaefix but that is so harsh on the fish. Also, both tanks dont get touched by any sunlight at all.
