GREEN WATER PROBLEMS PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm running them about 12-14hrs a day at 2.6wpg is that to much, and the water is more cloudy than green but still has a green tint to it,would the water turn that fast after do a whole tank change, three days is fast??????I was speaking english just dogging him!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah 12-14 hrs is a lot for a tank, planted or not. try cutting it by half. i ran 6hrs in my planted tank. even in my non planted tanks the lights are only on about 5hrs. a timer works great. the lights go on for a few minutes in the morning and dont come back on until i get home from work.

youre not doing anything else right, like dosing, fertilizing? im pretty sure its the excess lighting

Our living room has floor-to-ceiling picture windows and two skylights. Our tank gets a lot of indirect lighting all day long. It didn't very long for our new tank to look this this. No amount of water changes could take care of the green water.

A UV sterilizer quickly took care of our green water problem

I wouldn't consider not using a UV sterilizer now. The UV sterilizer kills other micro-organisms besides the green algae. Our fish are healthy, and their cuts and scrapes heal very quickly.

Thanks. Our pacu have outgrown their 300 gallon tank. Their new tank has been ordered and is being built now. The new set up will definitely include a UV sterilizer.

There are many types and sizes of UV sterilizers out there....I've seen them as cheap as $50. They all kill algae spores. If you heavily plant the tank it's harder for the algae to grow because it can't compete with the plants for food.

quick questions on the 24w system

how is this added to the tank .. aka how is it hooked up .. would you need anything else .. or does it just plug in and sit in the tank .. the information that is on the pestmart site is annoying at best

You'll have to post some pics of the new tank. What size did you get? Glad you found a solution to your problem... gotta love technology :headbang2
