You can get some fish safe algaecide at walmart. Just know that dying algae consumes the oxygen in the water. First do a major water change to get rid of most of the algae. Then add the algaecide. Watch the fish for any signs of stress or gasping. Also, keep an air stone going during the algae treatment. To get the algaecide really cheap, go to the fish department and find a bottle of the algaecide. Now carry the bottle to the pool section. Compare the ingredients until you find the pool algaecide that is the same stuff that is in the fish safe bottle. The fish safe bottle sells for $7 and will treat like twenty gallons. The pool algaecide is $13 and will treat like 20,000 gallons. It worked really well for me, only I didn't have anyone to tell me to keep the pond aerated. Three days after I did the treatment, every fish was dead. Only my bull frogs survived.

Don't you need to pull your filter when using an algaaecide? I never experimented... always pull filter mat. or bypassed filter.

You might consider painting the barrel sides if they are translucent like mine.

Glad to heard it's clearing up.

Your Filter can be upgraded a little better man. Send me some pic of both them and i can tell u some stuff to do, So fare im not liking the Stright tranfer pipes. 0.0 And theirs a high % of ppl that cover those drum filters enless u have planted one. but i need to see little more befor i can help u out. im not rich, and read around on the site, scrubbies are better. :D

You dont need to be rich to make it little better. 2 ways u can do is get ahold of one of thos full size drums u have cut in half. Make one a settlement. or half half. Then Make sure the Tranfer pipes are not going left to right. To get them working best You can install them on a L shape going back into the next drum or back to your pond. Or just follow this DIY These plans From Koi.MY I can get more pic. i have load from koi.MY They are azn wise at Filters.
