green water!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Not just getting a uv, you need to take the green out afterwards, watch your filter doesn't block with it. Filter floss is great for taking it out but will clog quickly

Here's how I did mine. Go invest in one of the little 20$ pumps at Lowes. Get a bucket, 5 or 10 gallons is fine, and drill a hole in the upper section of the bucket. Put the pump's hose into the very bottom of the bucket and poor some gravel on, just enough to put the hose in place. The size hose you will need will say on the pump, just ask an employee. Next, put a bunch of pea gravel, rope, cotton, or anything that will have water flow through it. The orange rope that is put on hay bails is what I used. Next, fill the rest of the bucket with about an inch of porous rock or gravel. Make sure that the rock is at least an inch below the hole at the top. If you made, say, an inch diameter hole, then get a inch and a centimeter, something just over an inch. take a lighter and melt the plastic around the hole and stick the pvc in. then wait for the plastic to harden and glue some silicone on. Wait for three days. Then you can set it up and start using it. Water should be crystal in 3 weeks, and NEVER clean it, it will give you green water. NEVER CLEAN IT

Call and talk to Stan. Waimanalo is one of the only real pond supply store on the island. I lived in Pearl City and had a 100g koi tank by the window. Water would get green in about a week. Weekly water change kept it clear. Water was so good on the island that I didn't even use dechlor. If you don't want to bother with water changes then a UV would be best. You don't need a very big one for a pond that size.
You can also check out my friend Taro at Kodama Koi Farm in Mililani. Not sure if they sell UV.

ok thank you for all the help. I will call up waimanalo. Also, I do weekly water changes, but the water is still green so I will definitely look into a uv.

Just get some green away its about $5.

Not letting this go. We said, "WHAT?!"

This might help. $59.99 at Home Depot. Green water cleared up in 24 hours, my pond is a lot smaller than yours though.
