Even if mounted say 6" above the top?

Would love to go LED but can't afford that price tag.

Here's the exact lights that I bought. Says they're xenon, don't know if that makes a difference.

If they're just resting on top of the acrylic, I'd definitely be worried about heat crazing. I'm not sure how much heat those little lights put out, so I'd mount them at least 6" above the tank. Maybe mount them on something (not the tank), and test to see what the temps are at 6", 8", 10", 12" etc until you find a distance that lights the tank well, but doesn't expose the acrylic to too much heat.

Ballin tank by the way!!!!

Thanks! I'll give it a shot. Went out and ran them for 15mins to see how hot they got and they do get a little warm. I think I'll be alright mounting them 6" above the tank in the canopy.

Sorry I haven't updated this recently. Been busy between work and school. I have the stand 95% completed. One more coat of stain and it will be ready for lacquer and sanding (to get that nice shine). Once I get the stand moved in I'll be able to set the tank in place and then put the top trim back on.

The canopy is 14" tall so this will put my lights 12" above the top of the tank. Hopefully they don't cause any crazing.

I'll get pics up when I find the camera!

Should finish the clear coat today. Hopefully I'll have the stand in the house, trim finished and tank on it this weekend. I'll put some pics up when it's in place. Won't be able to fill it until I get the wet/dry and plumbing done though. I'm anxious to get it up and running but between my last semester of college and work there just isnt enough time to rush it.

Sorry I've been slacking on keeping this thread updated. The girlfriend went home for spring break so I've been without the camera through most of the construction.

As it stands now, the tank is in place and ready to go. Finished the wet/dry last week and finally got it plumbed today. Had the glass cut locally, asked for 1/4" but ended up with 1/8", figured I could get away with it. . . WRONG! While building the w/d I did multiple test fills to make sure the glass would hold and all was peachy. Get it under the tank and everything up and running for 3 hours and then the first chamber piece shattered. Now I have to rip the front of the stand apart and get the w/d back out so I can put a new piece in.

Pics will be up once I fix the W/D!

Any news on the setup?

Your aquarium is almost exactly what I'd like to get someday, and I bookmarked Tenecor after seeing how beautiful that tank looked. It will be a few years before I live somewhere where I could house a beauty like you bought, but I love watching people put together amazing setups like that.

One question I had - when I went on Tenecor's website I couldn't find that size in any of their pricelists, am I just missing it somewhere, or did you custom order yours? I like that size, and would like looking at a similar acrylic one day (could never go that large in glass, I'd always freak out about it possibly breaking).
