Grossly over stocked?

If you want to keep everyone then youll need 2 more tanks at least a 75 gallon for the devil. Then i would say get a 6' 125 for the green terror, jd and cons, add some larger schooling fish with them. Leave the firemouths in the 55. From my experience this should keep everyone happy. Just realize these changes will have to be made sooner rather than later it will not take long for that devil to cause chaos.

Well thanks for the help guys! It sounds like my best bet is to just keep an eye on things and see how they unfold. I'll deffinately be working on getting the RD a big tank for its self. I do have a 10 gallon and 20 gallon at my disposal should anything pop up in the very near future and add larger tanks as need for the others that need to be weeded.

Sounds like a good plan. Definatly worry about the devil first the rest will be ok for quite a while. At least you have some spare tanks just in case. Devils have awesome personality and youll get to see more of that if hes solo.

Definitely some good advice here, i think the devil in a 75 would be sweet along with like 4 more red-tailed black sharks to add some movement and dithers. As for the rest the female con could pretty much go wherever, I would get rid of the smaller firemouth because the larger one will boss him around unless you get a tank larger than 75 gallons. But If you could i think that the 125 idea is a good one for the JD, GT, larger Fm and con. I even think you could possibly get away with a 75 for them because firemouths are wimpy and shouldn't cause problems once the others outgrow him. Just get some type of schooling fish as dithers in there too to lessen the aggression as well as plenty of hiding places for each fish. You have plenty of time though to figure all that out. the most pressing issue as already stated is moving the RD.

I noticed with the first 3 we bought, the small FM, con, and jack they each found a spot and claimed it as their own. The jack especially wouldn't even come out of his unless it was to chase the other two away or eat. Then we added 12 zebra danios and that had them all out somewhat more often. Now after add the big FM, RD, GT, and RTBS the tank is very active. The fish are always out and about, never even going in the hiding spots, other than the RTBS from time to time. He likes to chase the 3 little cichlids, but the FM is still ruling the tank even though the RD has some size on him.

Please tell me you cycled the tank! If not, you'll have a bunch of dead fish on your hands instead of a bunch of dead fish and the Midas.

This was my though too. Even if cycled that is an aweful lot of fish to add at one time so the tank will at least need to go through a mini cycle. Time for the beneficai bacteria to catch up to the new bio load. Be prepared to do some heavy water changes to keep the ammonia levels at least under .25 ppm. Though ammonia should be at zero.

Tank is fine. Keep them well fed. I have had good luck with big water changes less often with new worlds if you prefer. I also like to have more than one good hiding spot per fish - tubes, flower pots, cichlid rocks ..etc.,. You could even add a fish or two yet as well as some loaches, pleco or catfish to clean up the bottom. In a year or so you will see by the size of your fish if any are getting too big for the tank or you want to move everything into something bigger.

well that was a solid piece of terrible advice, thanks for telling everybody what NOT to do.
