Hello guys,
I just bought my new piece of java moss and could you guys tell me some tips and methods of growing it other than the normal methods such as the relevant water temp.,ph,etc.

And could you guys also confirm if this really is java moss?

Looks like java moss to me. Was the pic taken from your aquarium? I only ask because if it is, the moss should do well, considering nice growth from plants in background.

I’ve experimented quite a bit with java moss and have been very successful with them. Very true in how many say they’re easy to grow...however, just like most aquatic plants, if you want the most out of them, they do much better with good lighting and fertilizers...without them, they grow out long and stringy. I’ve grown moss walls and moss trees (best to wrap with thread). I may have posted these pics in the past:

I’ll second what fisheatfish said. It really is a great plant and fairly easy to care for, but if you let it get to cold it will die so make sure you have a heater on your tank. Fertilizer is also key if you want it really bushy. I actually have to take some out of my tank and give it away because it can get out of control.

Thanks a lot. But I have a problem with my moss....it doesn't grow at all. It might be growing very slowly but java moss is supposed to grow fast isn't it? What is the growth rate of this moss?

Their are over 1,000 types of water moss.
They will also grow slightly different based on local conditions.

My moss is a local native Iowa variety .
It will grow 3" per month under reef lighting, and CFLS, If the light is dim enough it will almost stop growing.

15358019665184307061779914697801.jpg Its amphibious, freezeable, and only drying it out completely will kill it.
Unfortunately my cichlids will tear it into pieces. If submerged.

To give you an idea of java moss growth rate...this is under high light with CO2. Twelve days growth period:
