growing plants in hang on filters?

Yeah, I have a grow out I added some plants too. Didn't really care how it looked. Dang the plants grow good in there. I don't even use the light on the tank I just use the sun coming in from the window. The tank started leaking so I spent last weekend ripping the tank apart and resealing and now it's back with the goonch. The little plant holders are from www.RipariumSupply.com they have suction cups to attach to the glass and they work great!

The Goonch is very rare, might be 10 in the country? I'm sure I have the only one in Phoenix

Good question (looking for another pic) The roots were cut back and I removed 75% of the plants when I drained and re-sealed the tank. The end near the window was a knot of roots, it was unbelievable. I actually turned the tank around so the pump intake was away from the window to keep the roots out of the filter LOL it was that bad/good. Crap I can't fine anything that would show you the roots. No way would that work with a HOB filter. But the roots looked cool and you can have the plant part above the hood in the sunlight and the roots inside the tank. Awesome filtration too!

The "quick" math I use for pothos plants is the roots will be double the length of the plant itself. I am growing out about 8 different species of common house plants and pothos is by far my favorite. I have two different species, one grows about x0 times the rate of the other. I'll see if I can dig up some pics from my overhaul thread that shows the roots.
