The more protein, the more of a growth food it is. most pellets will have around 35-45% protein. many flowerhorn specialist's use special formulated pellets with 55% or so protein.

You need much more than just food for good growth rate though.

1. Filtration- clean water, a must
2. Tank matenince^ a Duh along with number 1
3. Tank size, bigger the better
4. Varied diet you can't go with just a staple. You should have a meatier suplement aswell. along with multiple types of pellets.

But with increased speed of growth, the less time for full develpment of features the fish has, so it won't look as good as an adult. More drab colors will occor. Give your fish time to mature.

Powerfeeding is only good for farm rasied food fish.

Goood advice.;)I only feed once a day.I beleive you will get better results from consistantly good water quality then power feeding.

I feed mine the same regardless of how I'm trying to grow them out. I use Omega One Cichlid, Omega One Super Color, Omega One Super Veggie, NLS, Hikari (Excel, Sinking Gold, and Floating Carnivore Sticks), Sera Granuar pellets, Ocean Nutrition Brine Shrimp Flakes (mainy as a treat), frozen (clams, krill, mysis shrimp, bloodworms, and beefheart), live earthworms and mealworms, freeze-dried krill and crickets. I like variety.

Good water quality, especially from very frequent water changes is the key, along with filtration.

I think im going to start doing my water changes once a week(25 percent)With a mix up of the diet, from shrimp to cichlid gold and other pelletsplus plankton.

25 percent a week is an incease? I don't mean to sound unrespectfull but with most people its atleast a 50% w/c once a week. Of course the best way to decide how much water to change is to test with a good quality test kit. Test ammonie, nitrites and nitrates after a normal water change, and then test before your next water change and see how low you get your nitrates and how high they get in the span you alot between water changes.

I've had fantastic results with both 'Hikari Massivore Delite' and 'Hikari Carnivore pellets'. they are very high in prorein and also very high in Carotene which promotes great colours in your fish. Both product arent cheap, but well worth it. Of course, a well filtered, well maintained and well oxygenated tank are crusial elements too!

My male Salvini went from just under 6" to just over 7" in around 5 weeks on massivore delite! Not only did he put on some lenghth but his body mass increased significantly too.

The following 2 pics were taken around 5 or 6 weeks apart. They clearly show the power of these two products.

Wow nice growth.

I feed a mix of Hikari cichlid gold and biogold supplemented with f/d krill, shrimp, and earthworms. Getting good growth on everything except my pinktail chalceus, but I'm not sure they're all that fast-growing in general. I also do 50% weekly w/c to maintain levels 0/0/<20 -ates. I also keep my tanks at 82 rather than the 76 or whatever you see in the fish books.

All I can say is live foods. Try small fish like minnows. Not the ones you get at the pet store but maybe at a bait shop.(much healthier) Cricets are also a good food, but if you want the secret to a monster cichlid it is earthworms. My Oscars grew two and a half inches in a month off a 50% worm diet. The others are 25% minnow, and 25% pellet. The pellet is Oscar Grow but my GT and JD love it so its not just for oscars like it suggests.

Worms are a great food, lots of protein without the bones of live fish or the exoskeleton/shell of insects & shrimp. Feed 33%-50% earthworms/nightcrawlers and watch them grow.
