Growth on Lungfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Does it look like the lumps in this scientific article? If so, the scientists had injected gram negative bacteria, and it caused ulcers to eventually show on the lung's skin.

Great find, Rocksor. You blew me away with this find too! But Russ, the growths on the lung in the article have a reddened base and surrounding areas, a strong sign of inflammation underneath. From your photos, I don't see that. Perhaps you do by naked eye.

On another note, IDK if it matters or not, but I remembered that warts in humans had been thought to be caused by a virus. Again, I don't know if this is still status quo on this disease nowadays.

Wow, I didn't know that, and you're right about human warts still being cosnidered a virus. Also, just found out that it is part of the HPV family, which they are asking tweens to get vaccinated for.

Sorry about the digression OP.

all good guys, i appreciate the feedback... Im gonna seperate him to his own system and keep throwin everything under the kitchen sink at him and hope for the best.

thebiggerthebetter thebiggerthebetter , there is infact some red inflamation around the growth/cyst/wart. there are no multiples of it atleast. Tryin not to think the worst yet over here/jump to conclusions but the pic in that article is oddly similiar. Maybe ill get lucky and its just an infected wound/fungus that i can clear up with karamycin, salt, and clean water. I think i can eliminate parasite as the metro/prazi has had no positive effects after 3 weeks of ingestion.

Some tougher worms only go with fenbendazole or flubendazole treatment (they are largely the same treatment but fen is safer and has replaced the flu which is banned now in the US, I think). Just something to keep in the back of your mind. Not saying that's what it is but responding to your tentative conclusion that it is not a parasite.

I think I'd do the same in your shoes - move on to antibacterial remedies. Albeit, I'd earnestly keep trying to get an expert or experts look at this. Charney Charney for one. He is a vet who knows fish.

def. not ruiling anything out yet... ill try the fen aswell if the problem persists. hes only had 1 feeding of oxytetracylne so ill keep on that and move on as needed.

can you pull him out of the tank and get a picture of the growth? It will be clearer and easier to evaluate. Is there anything in the tank he can scratch or puncture himself on?

Thanks for checkin it out Charney Charney , ill pull him out for some more difinitive pics for ya. He could have scratched himself on a zip tie end or piece of egg crate initially. What im seeing now resembles a large pimple/boil. White in the middle, red around the permitter.

Hope these help Charney Charney , Thanks!

does it feel soft or fluidy? Wonder if its a little abscess. If you can I would try lancing it and flushing with dilute betadine

10/4...i'll grab some betadine and give it a go. I would say the area is soft to the touch.
