Mayans are often labeled as Red Terrors, that's why I asked. Aggression levels even in fry with these fish can be high. A 10 gallon tank is far too small even for fry. There will come a point where you will have only one left. Festae, Red Devils, Dovii, Midas and some others of the Parachromis family are extremely aggressive and often times very intolerant of tank mates. My friend has a female Festae in a 90 gallon tank alone because she's killed anything he's put in the tank with her or beat it to near death.
i currently have them in a 55 but i sold it and it is being picked up tomoro i havent seen any aggresion so far but there is 2 smaller ones which i hope grow fast cuz theyre getting left behind. how long do you think they will last in a 10 gallon tank??

Not very long. There is no way to put a time table on when a fish will snap. Some may not until they fully mature, while others go nuts at a smaller size. As I said in your other thread, often times it's not if, but when they snap.

I gave about 20+ fry under an inch (I believe) to a member on here that kept them in a 20 long and they killed each other off quickly...down to one dominant male.

Do you see the quote above yours? That happened within about 2 weeks in a tank twice the size of yours...and with 20 of them, not 4.

YES, they can kill each other off easily and will...

If you HAVE to keep them in a 10g, pack it full of every tank decoration you have and as many fake plants as you can get in it. Make it so that they cant see each other no matter how hard they look. It will look junky but youll have to live with it if you want to do everything you can to make them last until you put them in a bigger tank...and even thats not a 100% guarantee they still wont do it. either that or go buy 3 10g dividers and separate them.

If you want to keep them alive, thats the only way to make sure they survive your ill fated decision to not have the proper size tank/environment and your decision to not have researched the fish, its aggression level, eventual size and personalities etc etc etc before you bought them.

Its no biggie, we all at some point and time do it or have done it...but have no doubt...they will kill each other...and fast!

Keep the smaller 2 in the 10 and put the bigger 2 in the 30. There will come a point where you will have to divide them if you want them to survive as mentioned. May I ask why you sold the 55? I regret selling mine now, but I had to. If I was employed, I wouldn't have.

nothings out of the question, but no, I dont think it will work. I think the dominant will kill the others, in each tank. If the fry are under an inch, take the money youd spend on a 30 and buy 10g dividers and separate them. The dividers are only like $7 a piece i believe. They are plastic and have holes too small for them to get through. Either that or pack it (the 10g or the 30g & 10g) to the gills with crap they can hide in and fill all the big empty swimming spaces where they could run into each other. Thats the only way I see them lasting.

Good Luck and keep us posted on their status!

Well, with the leftover money, buy yourself dividers and separate them in each tank. Then you'll have a better chance at all of them lasting. Otherwise, it'll be a massacre.
