I have about 7 red terrors i got from jeff rapps about a year ago well ill say 6 because one is severely deformed and no good to me that way originally had 8 but the biggest one bit off more then he could hold in his belly and chocked to death on shrimp which i have never had happen before but anyway they have only grown about 2 inches tops in the last year is that crazy or are they that slow growing of a species im mean That is slower then a datnoid. I feed these mofos everything too and water changes every two weeks. Fully decorated natural tank. 60 gallon sump moving maybe 600 to 700 gallons an hour. What else could it be i know jeff is reputable but could it be this batch of fish is just no good?

Post some pictures. How big of a tank is it in? That is very slow growing and from what your saying they should be almost adult size.

5 fish are new editions because i got tired of waiting and setting up a 125 for the red terrors solo i was just wondering and the red terrors eat like pigs

Wow those are small for their age. Don't know whats going on but if your water is good I wouldn't worry too much. Nice Vieja! How old is he?

Hmm, I had bought 3 small festae that grew at a fraction of the speed of their tankmates. In fact in the 3 months I had them I don't think they grew at all...I ended up giving them away after a tankmate tried to eat one of them. I later bought a 7 inches and he has seemed to grow faster than the babies...

So i guess i better just keep it at then maybe they hit growth spurts instead of steady growth. Thansk

It is well known that frequent large water changes promote rapid growth, in your tank with other fish I'm not surprised they grew slow, especially with only 1 water change every two weeks.
Hormones and pheromones produced by some adult fish are theorized to slow the growth of others in a tank with only moderate water changes. In order to remove these growth hindering products, water change are the ticket.
I would change 30% every other day in my tanks, and found most cichlids grow rather quickly with that regime.
Most discus growers that want marketable size fish in the shortest amount or time will do a 90% water change ever day.
