I have (IME) seen a very diverse growth rate in Bichirs, so the question is.... what can I expect in my new 2-3" and what did you guys feed yours? Lets not let this thread die, this one could be valuble to noobs like me. Years and years back I had a Ornate, but then when I moved I let my friend take him for awhile. The plan was to get him back but now my friend has payed a lot just to take care of him(So I'm letting him keep it). Went to my buds house like 2 weeks ago. He's a beautifull 8-9" fish. I never got to see his growth, so what could have I expected!!!

Well it varies species to species... you can pretty much watch endlis grow but something like an ansorgii grow too small for their own good. Senegals grow pretty good, I think?

Hmmmm.... thanks Tim. I was just wondering what to expect from my Senegals. BTW, how fast did yours grow???

Couldn't tell you, had it for an hour before my ornate ate it. If you mean my ornate... less than 1'' per month definitely, dont remember exactly...

i find endlis really fast growers... i got mine at 6" and about 3-4 months later its 12" or so

You really can't put a definate growth rate on polys....It depends on Water quality, food and temperature....Both my Endli and Senegal grew very quickly, 1"-2" a month but my Ornate has grown significantly slower....I'd recommend if you want good/healty growth feed young polys twice a day(Massivore, Silversides,Krill, Earthworms) do 50%-70% WC once a week and keep temps between 80-84 degrees

Here's the best of my expierence.. IME i watch most endlis grow at a 2''-2.5" (up to 12"-14"), dels 1"-2" (up to 9" or so) , ornates 1.5"-2" (up to 15") , sen 1"-2.5" (almost till fully grown) , laps 1"-2" (up to 13")
All rates are based on a monthly growth.. varied diet.. from sutchi fillets , bloodworms , shell-ed shrimp , brine shrimp , night crawlers , beef heart , cosmet (live and quarrantined).. tip top water quality.. meaning frequent water changes of 25% every 3 days.. these rates are observed by myself while my fishes grow in a 150g.. from the time they were bought at 3".. water parameter are as follows.. ammonia 0 nitrites 0 nitrates at 5ppm.. temp always at 27 celcius.. ph at 6.8.. Fishes are fed once daily during feeding time usually between 6pm-7pm.. Fed to the point they no longer consume.. Hope this helps..

Cheers..
Ray..

Thanks guys.... so I guess I can expect fairly fast growth. My buds went at about 1/2" per month but didn't see enough of it to really be sure.... BTW Ray'O I LOVE you signiture.

I agree with the ppl that say that it varies between the species. I find ornates and endlicheris to be the fastest growers. Lapradei and Ansorgii are the slowest growers that i have had. My indo dats grow faster than the ansorgii and lapradei, and that tells alot imo. :D

Ansorgi and Laps tend to be more stubborn in the beginning.. but once they start eating wel.. they shoot pretty quickly..
