The problem here is nobody has kept the same rays or marble rays for a long enough time. Everybody keeps trading, buying, selling and then guessing their rays age after it has been through a few owners hands. A few years of keeping rays is no testament to knowing anything about the potential size of their ray. Come back in another 5 years after keeping the same marbles in a large enough environment for at least 7 to 10+ years and then tell me your faded brown marble still only has a 15" disc.
On that point i plan to prove the nay sayers DEAD WRONG!!!!!!I plan to keep my girls for a very long time Now i have two of the girl i posted pups had them pretty much 8 weeks after birth they are now 1 year old one 4 months older give or take I am a believer whether it be SA Cichleds or Stingray Color has to do with water Husbandry and Quality hardness and so on.. I hope to stick around for a long haul and will update on this thread and others Acouple pics of the two and their mother:D How bout them apples;)They are Both female and went from 4 inch disc to 9.5 in a little over a year .I hope i can say in five years they are neither brown or ugly

Oh IMO In my tank Momma has actually improved in Color sharpness and patern in the year i have had her....

My female motoro grew quickly to 12" and has been steadily growing ever since. She's now almost 2.5 yrs and 16 maybe 17" across. I picked up a marble male pup around the same time so he's also almost 2.5 yrs now. He too grew to about 11" quickly but really hasn't grown much since that first year maybe 1 more inch if that. I have a female marble that was very small when I got her 4.5" and 7 months old but is now growing well and maybe 9" at 1 yr. It will be interesting to see if she starts to slow down or if she keeps going.

They are in a 750 and are fed 1-2 times daily.

I've had my pair of WC marbles for 10+ months now. Their sizes was a 7" male and a 10" female. Today they're 9" and 12" so only about a 2" growth rate in 10 months. I was feeding them nightcrawlers daily but switched off to feeding them market shrimp daily and Canadian nightcrawlers on the weekends. For their age I'm not sure exactly how old they are.

I've had my female around 5 years and she would be around 22-24" and has outgrown all my female motoros I had. Probably my thickest ray for it's disc width.
:headbang2 They we go, someone with more then a few years experience....A marble over 22" and at least 5 years to boot. It will probably grow even bigger over time in your 2200 gallon tank!!!

My largest pure marbleds are in the 16-17" disc size range. These two I am referring to are very long term captives, and been passed around by many people. I do beleive rays (like most fish) will continue to grow with proper conditions but in captivity the common theme (reguardless of tank size) is we do not see the potential fish can hit in the wild. My largest female ray (JimR's old female) has grown in size since I got her from Alan last August. Not a ton and unsure if it is "true" growth or just her body and disc filling out and not being chewed on like crazy by males.

The other thing I notice with threads like this, when talking max size on rays, is everyone talking the same - disc diameter or overall length? Obviously these are two very different numbers and could be some of the difference we are seeing in the replies.

Yes my beast "superspot" is not full marble or motoro. She is a marble x motoro mix and is 20" diameter disc.

IMO. Anybody that is into rays should know it's disc diameter and not overall length when measuring.
