GT and JD Need Tankmate

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well I'm starting to fear for my JD's life. The Terror and Dempsey are still in the 45 together and the GT chases him all over the place. They were both the same size when purchased and now the GT is about an inch bigger. Any suggestions?

Yeah...
I've had good luck with keeping a couple of dither fish like Giant Danios to help with aggression. For a while, my GT was beating up on my severum...Threw some of those danios in the tank and now he spends most of his day chasing them instead. They're quite a bit faster than him though.

That doesn't sound like a bad idea. I threw 2 goldies in to keep him occupied for now. My buddy works the the LFS so I may pick up a couple Danios for cheap.

I had a JD and GT together in a very similar situation. I started feeding normal fish food like always, but after the GT ate, I snuck an earthworm or two to the JD. He caught up in about a month or so. Maybe I got lucky, but it could be worth a shot.

Wal-Mart has "Red Worms/Trout n Panfish worms" or something like that. They're smaller than nightcrawlers - only a couple inches long. Give em a try even if you have to cut them up first.

Hope it works out for you. good luck!

I forgot to say I think the Target fish or "dithers" are a good idea too. I used Tiger Barbs

Actually target fish is a better label. I believe dither fish are to be used to bring out shy fish and give them confidence.

How do you tell a male and female gt apart? I have one but having trouble sexing it, perhaps you know?
