I have a 4" Gold Saum. His finnage is beautiful blue in all through it with very vibrant orange outline. His face is almost 2/3's covered in turquoise blue wormy markings. The only problem I have is that his green is there...but not up to par with the rest...I've heard lighting affects this and only the diet determines the finnage color. Someone help me with this...I want him to be a show stoppa...and once again if my digi was working I'd have good pictures but cam pics dont do him any justice.

lighting will help , and Cichlid gold by hikari really helped bring out the greens in my GT which I had to give away yesterday :'(

I'm not suggesting to do this but if you where to put him in a bag and bring him otuside into the sunlight you'll notcie his colours will all really brighten, so getting a light that mimics the sun the closest would really help bring out his colour

Blue and green are a result of genetics and lighting. Reds, yellows, and oranges are a result of genetics, lighting, and diet.

I have just the all glass strips but life glo and power glow bulbs...I was looking at getting a lunar t5 fixture 48" to go over the top with 9 lights and the 9 actinic nights for evening and night I was also gonna get one for my africans too. Main reason I want it in my 90 is so my plants will grow a lot better.

My fish go mental in the morning when they get the sun coming through the window. It's worth cleaning the algae off every week when I get to see them energetic and enthusiastic when I wake up (before they can see me and that energy turns into 'give me good thanks').

Colder (higher Kelvin) bulbs will bring out the colours much nicer but you'll find that healthy environment and a great diet will be the main variables to how your fish looks. As nomadofthehills has mentioned, don't forget his or her genes, you can't change them but they will matter.

He gets

Hikari:
Gold
Bio-Gold
Excel
Sinking Gold
Massivore Delite
Carnivore pellets

Frozen:
Whole Krill
Mysis Shrimp
Squid
Silversides
Spirulina enriched brine shrimp

I mean what else could I possibly feed him...that's a lot of variation. Im really thinking about ordering that t5 coralife fixture for my 90 its 235 watts in 9 lunar bulbs and 9 actininc blue bulbs. Question though those who use actinic bulbs do you keep them on all night or just run them for a hour or two after the lunar lights go off...?
