Also I think the real green doesn't come out until they get a little bigger.

It can take awhile for the gt's to mature to full coloration they just grow slow another inch or 2 and his colors will look iridescent.

He gets

Hikari:
Gold
Bio-Gold
Excel
Sinking Gold
Massivore Delite
Carnivore pellets

Frozen:
Whole Krill
Mysis Shrimp
Squid
Silversides
Spirulina enriched brine shrimp

I mean what else could I possibly feed him...that's a lot of variation. Im really thinking about ordering that t5 coralife fixture for my 90 its 235 watts in 9 lunar bulbs and 9 actininc blue bulbs. Question though those who use actinic bulbs do you keep them on all night or just run them for a hour or two after the lunar lights go off...?

A lot fo variation, yes. Personally, ditch the hik-crapy, and switch to something like omega one or NLS.

maybe a live food like an earthworm once in a while

Did you have bad luck with hikari ?
please elaborate on your dislike of hikari

Thank you

I feed mine Hikari gold and omega shrimp pellets. Omega One is a good brand; try some of that. I haven't used their cichlid pellets before though,
Also, all that lighting isn't guaranteed to give him good color. I think you can have too much lighting, and 235 watts is too much.

Yes he gets a lot of variation, and I've heard the ongoing battles against hikari vs. nls vs. omega one but I've heard some really good things about omega one...it just that they are so picky on pellets I dont wanna switch them up and have 20-40 bucks worth of food they wont eat. I buy earthworms and crickets 2x a month for a live treat, the only thing else they get live besides that is brine shrimp and convict fry. FSM your right 235 is way to much they have a 135 watt that only has 4 lunar bulbs I think I might try that one on for size.

No, I have had fine luck with hikari. However, I prefer better than fine.

Bio gold:
Ingredients: fish meal, wheat flour, brewer's dried yeast, gluten meal, spirulina, fish oil, bacillus subtillus, enzyme, garlic, astaxanthin, monosodium glutamate, vitamins and minerals including stabilized vitamin C

Additives:

Vitamin A - 26,000 IU/kg

Vitamin C - 140 mg/kg

Vitamin D3 - 5,300 IU/kg

Vitamin E - 900 mg/kg

It also has garlic, which fish love the taste of. I wonder if fish would even touch it if it didn't have the garlic in it...

Omega ONE Large cichlid pellets:

NGREDIENTS: Whole Salmon, Whole Herring, Whole Shrimp, Wheat Flour, Wheat Gluten, Fresh Kelp, Lecithin, Astaxanthin, L-Ascorbyl-2-Phosphate (Source of Vitamin C), Natural and Artificial Colors, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin D3 Supplement, Vitamin E Supplement, Vitamin B12 Supplement, Riboflavin, Niacin, Pantothenic Acid, Folic Acid, Biotin, Inositol, Tocopherol (Preservative), Ethoxyquin (Preservative).

The only thing I like about Hikari over Omega is that Hikari doesn't use ethoxyquin.

great explanation to first question thank you
last question , what is NLS

NLS is New Life Spectrum, its a great fish food that has been used to successfully keep even extremely delicate species such as the Moorish Idol.

I can't find the ingredient list online, but I have used it and it is high quality, based on krill, herring, and spirulina.

As I said, nothing wrong with Hikari, in fact it used to be the best. Things change though
