GT & Gold/White Saum pic thread

I can't believe how fast this guy has grown. I finally got an updated picture of him tonight. The 1st picture is 10 wks ago when I got him at under 2 inches & the 2nd picture is tonight at 5 inches (with tail). He was so pale looking the day I got him and so pretty now. Little $3 PetsMart Green Terror and next to my Oscars he's my favorite fish. I just put him in the 250 gal with a Red Oscar and female Severum today and so far so good.

noticed a nice pile of eggs on a rock this morning. looks like my collection is growing :D

Congrats! My 5th spawn hatched yesterday. Eggs are always exciting. Is it their first spawn?
 
yup. theyve only been in the new 210g for a couple weeks. the male seems to be eating some of the eggs tho. so ill let nature takes its course on this one, but next spawn ill siphon out and put into a grow out tank.

Hmm, Ive never had a problem with the males. In fact Ive been leaving the fry with the parents till they were an inch or so. They seem to grow faster when with the parents. They are very good at protecting the fry.
 
im thinking they knew the eggs were duds. so far, of the few that are left, none have shown any eye spots yet. from your experience, how long do the eggs take to hatch?
 
3-4 days maximum. Usually after 24 hours I can begin seeing development. My last spawn hatched in only 48 hours.
