Now i had one gt that i raised for like 2yrs thinking it was a male, it was the largest and most dominate of the bunch so i picked her out and it took me 3tries to grow a male to the size were she wouldn't kill him. finally they mated. so my Q is all the one i've really ever seen were Gold Saums i take it.....i understand the White Saum as well though i've never seen one in real life....once i saw a GT really small one and his fins were very red!! i wanted him so bad but didn't get him. are the gold saums the false GT?? or is any GT that is tank raised/farmed false? i prefer the orange/red in the dorsal fin/tail personally. when i am buying fish i go for brightness in color and livelyness. so wish is the false GT and which is the true because i know everyone calls them Aq. Rivatlus even blue acaras. thanks

False GT is a misnomer. You should think of GT as 3 different fish which are all referred to as green terror:

Gold Saum
Silver (or White) Saum
Silber Saum

The Silber Saum (which is the rarest in the trade currently) is what should be referred to as the original green terror. The other two would be what you refer to as the false GT, especially the gold saum as it is the most common in the trade currently. There was a time when they thought all three were the same species of fish.

The main difference between the silver and gold saum is the coloring on their fins. The Silber Saum resembles a silver saum but the scales would appear inverted compared to the other two. This means that the gold and silver saums have scales that appear as dark with a light outline while the silber saum has scales that are light with a dark outline.

Right now he's growing out in a 55g with an oscar, a firemouth, Polypterus senegalis, and another Gold Saum.

Next year he'll get a tank upgrade.

Staple food is Hikari Cichlid Gold. I offer a variety of other dried and frozen foods. The only live food my fishes get are insects and worms. The gold saum seems to prefer the pellets over live food!

Same fish, a little older now. He really gets into it with the firemouth and a smaller gold saum in the tank.
