I know this happens alot with them.but forgot what to do.he stopped eating and is less active he is the dominate one of the tank.
.Its a 75 gallon 2xac 500 with a fluval 405, 5 silver dollars, firemouth and severum.I feed him flakes, cichlid gold, algae waffers, blood worms, krill, green cichlid gold, shrimp pellets. When I change the water I do 35% a week and add aquarium salt plus startright dechlorinator.all water parameters are in check with a ph of 7.2 do you think I need to medicate him?

? sounds like internal parasites.

you might but first you need to find out whats wrong iloveoscars702 thinks its parasites but i have no clue how to treat for them

I had him for months now and his poop was fine, but in a matter of 2 days he has a constant white string comming out of him never leaves.

YEah quarantine and prazi pro. Seems like this is a common issue with GT's. GL

Now I am not recommending this necessarily but I have a GT that had the stringy poop. I don't have a quarantine tank and so I put in aquarium salt after a 25% water change (which I normally put aquarium salt in anyways). I followed up a week or so later with a little more. I didn't go crazy with it either time. So far I haven't seen the white poop and the fish is eating better than ever.

sounds kinda like droopsy to me I lost about 100 dollars worth of african cichlids to droopsy and they had about the same symptoms. lethargic, white stringy poop, and swollen bellies. I medicated with Maracin, for the perscribed dose and frequency, I lost most of my smaller fish but saved over half of the fish I had.
