Guess what i caught!

nice catch, i would much rather prefer a real fish at 120lbs, rays and skates always get in the way of good saltwater fishing imo.

big bat ray!

Yup a bat ray! I like to catch these because they fight so hard.

How long did it take to land it?

Those things are tough to reel in. They go and go and go like the Energizer bunny.

It took me about 45 min, when my friend, in the pic, tried to pull it on the dock the ray almost pulled him in, my other friend (the photographer) grabbed him by the waist and they combined barely pulled it on the dock.

Here is the whole thing (look at our feet in corner for size comparison).

very nice catch, do you eat it? always herd the fins were good but never tried it myself

Do they sting you? is it lethal?

gonna make a briefcase out of it? that would be awesome.

I have never ate one, always release them, I have heard the meat in the wings is edible...

It is a relative to the ray that killed Steve Irwin, like the California version. If stung it is extremely painful and if the stinger breaks off in you it may require surgery. I have been pricked in the finger, but ripped it out quickly so i only had a small cut and it hurt really bad for a few seconds then kinda went numb and didn't hurt again. I have heard that their poision/venom(?) is an anti-coagulant, my cut did bleed really bad, but i have no proof that backs up that claim. So yes if you aren't careful/ don't know how to handle them they can sting you quite easily.
