Thanks,my son has a setup with two beardies on which he has a basking lamp to keep the whole thing warm.I've been considering getting a heat mat in order to give the bulbs a break during the night.

He prefers the heat normally but will spend time basking after eating. I think heat mats are more effective with substrate as it disperses the heat.

Interesting,he recently tossed out the loose substrate and has replaced it with tiles in the tank...a few that I used to have in my tank btw.He felt it would be easier to keep up with cleaning the tank.I would prefer he went with a sheet of that green felt looking stuff.

The reptile carpet is a pain to clean but it’s probably easier for the beardies to move around on. If you want a low maintenance and visually appealing enclosure then Bioactive is the way to go. There are some good arid bearded dragon enclosure tutorials on youtube
