That's really a cool choice, I didn't know you guys could buy them as pets. They are quite common in the wild here, I often see them sitting in the sun on the side of the road when I'm driving in the country, sadly you see a lot squashed too where they venture too far onto the road..
I've never kept one long term. when we were kids we would catch one and keep it for the summer in the old chicken coop. I fed them snails and eggs but not sure if that's a good. Long term diet. As they were outside they would eat bugs and things too. We always let them go when the weather cooled down so they could find somewhere to hibernate for winter.
I hope you enjoy having one as a pet, it should be fun for you.
 
Awesome! Definitely want to get one myself in the next few months. (School is what I have to worry about first) but definitely and awesome choice. Should name it like beef or tank or something along those lines.

Kolton13 Kolton13 ha ha great name suggestions but my family is set on Erwin although I am not I like the funny names. its my reptile yet they get to pick the name I guess thats how it goes lol Im just glad they takes an interest and do not think he is gross anyways They are pretty low maintenance babys get fed every other day and adults 2-3 times a week and they eat canned cat/dog food. It was acualy your thread that made me get one sooooo Thanks!

Ok update been three days since pickup and he is doing great he is eating well loves his cat food and fruit gotta work on the veggies though lol this is him digesting after a meal of cat food shredded carrots and blue berries hes so great I love this little guy and also a full tak shot of his 40g breeder he is bigger than I thought closer to 10" not the 6-8 I thought he was
