Try this odd looking snake

I saw several in kenya/tanzania/egypt
they're weird-their body is so thick but so short
 
And I know who took that picture, but I won't spoil everybody else's guesses by tellng

Ring-necked snake (Diadophis puctatus) probably either the northern (edwardsii) or more likely the southern (punctatus) subspecies.
 
I Believe it may be Chalcides ocellatus, Ocellated Skink
or Barrel Skink native to the islands off the west coast of Italy.
