dont worry :( he will pull through. you tried your best and thats all that counts..

I appreciate your kind words. I really do hope he does.

Well, I thought I was going to go out to a dead fish this morning, but he's still alive and upright. He's resting on the bottom.

I'm actually beginning to wonder if I've managed to keep him from getting any infection, but that he's running out of fat reserves. He's not eating (not surprising giving that he must feel like hell), and he has so much tissue to replace I'm sure it takes a lot of energy to do it. So, I wonder if he's going to end up more starving to death that dying from all the other reasons that I figured would do him in. If I could only get him to eat a little, I think it would make a giant difference in his ability to recover.

Oh, before he was in a bath of a mix of sulfa antibiotics. I ran out of those, and ordering more was going to cost me about $90. So, he's now in a bath of amoxicillin and gentamycin, which according to my research, should be okay to use together in slightly lower dosages.

Well, I lost him last night. He was doing so well until the last 48 hours, and then he just suddenly started going downhill. Kidney failure maybe? He shows no sign of infection. I measured what was left of him and he was 23.5" plus whatever tail was missing. He probably was probably right around the 25" mark. :( Ugh, the trash came this morning. I really don't want to have him sitting in the trash can for a week in this heat. I guess he'll have to go in my freezer.

I'm sorry you lost him after all that effort. You really did everything possible and gave him the best chance he had.

Thank you...

Sorry for your loss.

I usually bury my fish that I'm strongly attached too when they pass.
