Gulper Catfish tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Gulper will without a DOUBT eat the angels. They look like veils to me which means they're even slower than regular angels. Gulper will just wait until they get close then say goodbye to them. Some people may have more docile ones that will put up with tankmates but if I were you I'd just do 2 gulper so with no other tankmates.

Do you think two would be okay in a 50? That would be awesome. Im planning on keeping just one. But if two can live comfortably in a 50 then id take a shot hehe

I'm more concerned about the gulper's health once it gets moved in. I hear they're a bit sensitive and a couple weeks isn't usually long enough for a complete cycle. Did you seed the tank with media from an established one? Are you testing ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate to ensure the tank is cycled before the gulper gets moved in?

Hope all goes well and I'll be looking forward to pics.

Yep, im well aware of that. All the medias in the 50's filter were borrowed from my bichir tank's trickle filter. Thanks for the tip though, if thats the case, then il wait a couple more weeks before i tranfer the gulper. My supplier's still holding it for me while the tank is cycling.

How long did it take him to eat those livebearers you put in with him Dan? Didn't see him eat any in the video.

Less than a week. The endlers where small and fast so he didnt eat them as quickly as larger tankmates and such. I (thankfully) just got him off live.
Also like most catfish, he's allot more active (and hungry) at night.

2 will do fine. They are lazy and dont move much so you can get away with keeping them in smaller tanks.

Yeah, it'd probably work. Although I've heard cases of Apurensis eating other ones of the same size, though I doubt gulper are THAT ravenous.

Heres a closer look at the driftwood. And the biggest angel at approx 7inches in diameter.

Once its waterlogged and finally sinks, il tie some anubias in there and thats it. Il keep the tank as simple as possible
