A good side-by-side coachman 12 guage with external hammers will get the point across. Lots of big dark barrel to look down and really loud cocking sound when you throw those hammers back.

Any links to help me out? I don't know guns...

I just did a google search for "coachman 12 gauge shotgun", and I am only finding old-school shotguns (read: expensive). While I am all about spending money for a quality firearm, I don't need to buy a rare gun.

Just because you have agun means nothing, are you willing and able to use it. It does not sound like you have a firearm background.

Having an unarmed person break in and shoot you with your own gun is a possibilty.

Also the "spray" as you put it makes for some liabilities, I take it you are going to shoot birdshot?

If I was keeping a shotgun for home defnse it would have slugs in it, no spraying for me.

I have no background whatsoever. I also do not plan on buying a gun, and thinking that I can automatically use it. To me, I am the weapon, the gun is a tool. When I get a shotgun, I will practice firing it with my right hand. I will practice firing it with my left hand, incase I lose my right hand. I will go through each room, and practice covering. Reverse, I know we have had issues in the past. Do not make this into a "You shouldn't own a gun, since you are ignorant about guns".

I know I do not know much/anything about guns. Hence why I am asking for advice. As for the spray comment, I was under the impression that slugs are full of pellets....

I would think a trip to Ikea is a btter place to start than at the shotgun store.

For?

Why not get a hand gun, they're smaller & easier to hide,or snatch up quickly.Alls I have is a 380 with hollow points loaded into it.It'll do the trick if your life is in danger.

Furniture.
It's just odd to me that getting your own place= getting a shotgun when you will probably need a ton of other far more useful things.
Like furniture.
And Glade scented candles.:)

Meant first purchase other then necessities. And yes, I would buy a shotgun before glade scented candles.

I like the shotgun b/c of the unmistakable sound it makes when cocked. If someone breaks into my house, and I cock it, they will know 100% what is in my hands.
