Gun people! I need a shotgun...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Going to play the 922 game and play gunsmith with an old toy of mine also. I want to redo her into an early German G-3. This thing like a good number of CETME is a mess and needs a full overhaul so I may as well do something interesting with it...

Figure I'll take a break from the Eastern europe stuff..... :)

First fricking thing to do is to get that dumb fricking rail off of it. Totally useless on that gun. Parts kits are still available though so getting replacement parts to get her back in shape should not be hard.

You should have little issue getting the forms through... It is usually easy and simple if your in friendly territory.

I went through hell with my old AKSU SBR but then look where I live.....Gave that one and the PPS-43 up as it was too much hassle.

Why did you let them go once you got them?

As for the Class III stuff, do you have any suggestions for me to make the process smoother?

The CETME looks like it could be made into something nice. They are a wonderful weapon.

Go the trust route - search the web about owning class III weapons and setting up a trust, you WON'T have to get promission from the COP (chief of police) if you go this route - but then again, depends on which state you live in and all that.

I'm primarily a C&R guy and have a 003 FFL. The PPS fit that and the AKSU not. To make a long story short I had one to many audits of my books and a lot of fricking hassle about these two guns from local LE. In Michigan it is like pulling teeth to get any NFA and if you manage to do so they then harrass you about everything else in addition. I figured it was better to just say fine and let them go. Not really the core of my collection and I could do without. I thought about making a big stink (These where legal 100% with the PPS being pre 1986 and the AKSU a Semi SBR) but then why bother. Michigan has a confusing set of laws regarding NFA guns. They are not Illegal as long as they are (and the person owning) federally “licensed” to possess them. As long as the feds approve it it is OK but then they don't really like that either..

Two key things on the Class III process.. Patience and full honesty. Be willing to wait and be willing to disclose anything. (Within legal limit of coarse) Also try to keep up on the progress and stay involved. Do not hesitate to ask questions about where you are at with your paperwork.

heard the ATF are auditing C&Rs in a very aggressive fashion lately

go with a beretta shotgun

Very nice guns.....but I think they are a little more than the OP wants to spend.

I am going to agree with the masses and recommend the 870. I have a Mossberg 835 (3 1/2 magnum) that I have had nothing but problems with (spent shells getting stuck in the barrel) since the day I bought it. I have had 870's in the past and they are very reliable.

If you ever go the pistol route, I highly recommend the Beretta 92FS (9mm). Very reliable and fun to shoot.
