Hi. Are there any members out there who keep guppies as pets, and are opposed to others feeding these little guys as live bait? I THINK ITS WRONG!!!!!!!!

Really, I have always seen guppies as feeders...They have little to no meat on them, which stirred me away from even getting one...Well maybe I have gotten a few to feed my piranha fry, but that is it...I sold my last tank tank lasy month.... I have been out of the hobby for well over a month now, but have been visiting many mom and pop stores that are in my city....I have seen some mini 5-20g setups with live plants and simple fish such as dwarf puffers and your infamous guppy....I must of stared at these setups for a good 10 minutes before realizing what I was doing...I was simply amazed by the beauty of such simplicity....Normally I would throw away the thought of keeping any type of fish other than predatory, but after such displays that I witnessed, it made me think differently....

I give guppies to my Pike, fire eel, AF, RCK, CK, Marble gobie, an to any other predatory fish that to small for comets an mollies. In fact Ill probally buy some tommorow after my yellow tail barracuda, jardini, an african butterfly fish arrive. :headbang2

I don't have any problem with the use of guppies as feeders provided they are given a decent environment to live in before hand. Honestly though, the fish people use as feeders (guppies, convicts etc.) are often more interesting to watch then the fish that eat them.

I think the preds are much more interesting than guppies, cons, etc.

Try a pinky(young mice), mmmmm....My Oscar swallowed a dead finch chick from the backyard....

In a moment of bad judgment I fed the ham out of my cordon bleu to my bass last year. Washed it off and gave it to him, gone. No problem, but probably not a good move.

honestly doesn't matter to me. If somebody doesn't seperate them from their parents they become feeders for them anyways

This statement is totally not true..guppies NEVER eat their babies... or any other fish!!! You can raise them all together in the tank and no baby no matter how small is in any danger of being eaten by the parents..i have never seen it!!

Great! Someone agrees with me. GUPPIES RULE!!!!!!

I agree with you...there are some awesome bred guppies in fishkeeping and they are popular for their beautiful tails and awesome colors... i raise them as pets .. they are a cool tank to keep ..some are really gold and some are blue and red etc.. fun !I did feed a few of my new fish guppies when i first brought them home.. they were use to eating live fish.. I hated it !!!!! And as soon as possible i got them all off live food.but sometimes it is nessasary..
