omg! so excited! my female guppy is pregnant, out of five, she is the only survivor with a male guppy in a 400L tank. i also have six angelfish, one bronze cory, one pictus, one gold nugget and one clown loach in there. i can see eggs in her stomach. how long do you think before she gives birth? also i want to save these fry, i have never bred any fish before, so i bought this plastic thing to put the fry in that goes into the tank. how do i know when she will give birth? i can only see eggs, i know they are livebearers, shouldn't i see fry inside her? or is there a long time to go now?she has had eggs for a couple of days now.

About how big is she? Is she kind of big and boxy?

yes, she looks very heavy and big. she is swimming near the surface and hovering there. time to time she swims about, the male always stays with her.

Could be anytime now then. Hehe a reason he's so close is because he knows and maybe able to get a meal. ;)

Is the container you got the kind with a small openings for the fry to separate from the mother?

i dont know - its a marina breeder thingy. i can seperate them, yes. but having trouble trying to make it latch on to tank! don't say that about the father!!! lol he's cute, but he aint getting those fry. whats the next step now, wait until she gives birth then....? want to get these fry before my angels or pictus do

Havent' used any type of breeder container just yet. I just let nature takes it's course. Liked the size of fancy more than feeder. But from what i've read and heard if she's big now as good a time to move her.

My biggest female birthed some last week. I don't know how many she birthed but saw atleast 5 fry last week. Seen only 2 as of yesterday(5/14/2k8).

Oh and my old male was particularly vicious (lol- well for a guppy heh) if/when he was in the vicinity of newborns.

Also its' quite exhilirating(sp?) to see them shoot out of their mother for the first time! Heck it's fairly cool anytime.

well now i managed to clip the breeder in the tank, i will wait for her and see what happens. if some of the fry are deformed then i will give them to my BGK he loves anything that moves lol.

hehe you may need to grow them out to feed your bgk, how big is it? They're tiny. I have a sand substrate and occasionally lose them in it when observing my guppies.

I haven't noticed any deformities with mine then again i have them with a Convict and a Rainbow cichlid.

Can't figure out who eats adults though, lost my oldest male to them :irked: But that's somewhat expected. So i usually lose a few fry. I think i maybe have 1-2 make it from every spawn.
