Gutsy Mix, Can it be Done? 2.0

Hi S SilverArowanaBoi ,

Was taking a break from tank work and saw a notification. After looking over the thread sounds like you might want to try a GT or JD for the tank size that works for you.

Never stunt or sacrifice a fish's health to accommodate your needs. But I see you're rehoming the oscar so cool. As far as stands go you could use cinder blocks...they are cheap.

I have a red oscar named Brick. I saved up for several months to get a lifetime tank for an Oscar, a 225. It was worth it, because I could still put other fish in there (within reason) and not go the upgrade route because stuff always happens in life. Then it was 8 weeks cycling the tank. Went crazy waiting but forced myself. Four years later I have an amazing oscar last measured at 15". He's 2-3 lbs and thick as a slab. My water chage schedule is omce a week 90%. If I go one day past the tank stinks to the roof. Oscars have a helluva bioload and once they grow past a foot it's even worse because they get wide everywhere. Even a small adult oscar would be around 10-11" and meaty. A 55 would foul and pollute too quick to make it work. Not enough water and not enough space.

Here's Brick

Yeah Puffer long term wouldn't work for me...
Actually there’s many that would work long term. I had a dragon puffer that was amazing, but you’d have to get rid of everything else. If you could find a male n female you could have two and you wouldn’t have to worry about the beak
Here’s mine eating a silverside

Ok, I had a very dramatic change of plans...I talked to my mom about the Oscar, and she told me that I couldn't get rid of the Oscar tomorrow, and I couldn't get rid of it any time soon because I just got it. So it looks like I'll be keeping little Garchomp for longer. Do you have any recommendations to help accommodate my newest addition? Are there any little-known facts about the Oscars that y'all have observed that I should know?

After I get rid of the Oscar whenever I can, I want to get a green terror. I'm planning on fish that will permanently stay; I assume this plan will be enacted later this year when I go to the aquarium expo.

First, I recommend showing this thread to your mom. Second did you see my latest recommendation? You could do a sweet tang setup in a 55. You could do two colonies of different species.

Yes, I did see that setup. I've considered shell dwellers before; they are cool but not exactly what I want.

Also, no matter what evidence I show my mom, she won't budge unless she is already on the side of letting me do whatever I want. With the Oscar, she is on the side of letting it stay. For now, I will rest my case with her (as she is already upset with me for suggesting the idea; idk why, but she is...), and I will bring it up at a later date. I will give the Oscar the best care I can, like with my other fosters until it leaves my tank.

I know many of you disagree with this, as well as myself, but I would prefer not to talk about it any further unless y'all have some recommendations for how I can better accommodate the Oscar.

The only recommendation is to feed it very sparingly, and do lots of water changes

Ok, how does a damn fish have more charm than me? I now totally understand why you prepare its food FINWIN@. Oscars are so wonderfully derpy lolll.

Also, I just realized that I have the same type of Oscar as FINWIN@. Just a baby version.

One idea is try to include your mom in its care and feeding, try to get her attached to the Oscar, then maybe that will help when the time comes for a bigger tank, try to show her that it’s a water puppy

I've never tried that, I might do it XD
