Gymnogeophagus balzanii in temperature below 40 f

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are caught in Uruguay or Paraguay area so they need low temperatures for a few months. Vittata gets 14"+ so it will eventually get a chance to eat your gymnos.

Problem is that some sources claim that max size for Vittata is 9 inch and some that max size is 14. Obviously 14 inch is 35cm and it could be dangerous for other gymnos.

Oliver Lucanus, a prominent pike collector has stated it's one of the larger pike species at 14"+. I believe him more than other sources since he has observed and collected them. Vin Kutty is another reliable sournce. (uruguay.html). Ken Davis has collected specimens from 9"-14" total length

What sources claim only 9"? Is that standard length or total length? Are you sure they didn't mistake C. vittata for Crenicichla celidochilus (which grow 9-10" TL)? They have similar color. You can join the facebook group Pike Cichlids, and do a search for Vittata. There's some folks who already have 12" ones that they purchased from vendors.

Here's a youtube video of one in the wild at 1:10 you can see the difference between the vittata and the human hand.

Yeah, its huge predatory fish and now its clear for me that c. vittata is not fish for me. Thats explain why vittata is cheapest one - no buyers for such a kind of demanding and big fish

Looks great. Wish I could find some gymnos. Haven’t seen anything but terrapurpura in years. Looking for gymnogenys
