H. armatus x3

With prices coming down on the somewhat, I'm hoping more people try larger groups to see if it can be done without too much risk. I'd love to be able to cohab a shoal of ATF and armatus, but with current data it doesn't seem very likely to work out. Hopefully you can change my mind here. ;)

Ooof I wouldn't risk that seeing as though ATF are still very pricey. But all the "myths" (I quote it because it seems only LFS shopkeeps say it and exp monster keepers on here say otherwise) that fish can only be kept alone or w/ certain others has been squashed just by seeing some of the tanks on here.

Mala wolf fish in a comm tank, aimara wolf fish in a comm tank, ATF in a comm tank all, armatus and scomb in a comm, all of these I was told would kill everything else by the inexperienced but then I see some of the tanks on here that are these things and you just gotta give it a good thought. And take a bit of a risk, but what is this hobby w/o taking some risk? It would be very boring haha

Sorry OP for derailing the thread a bit, again beautiful fish and I wish you the best of luck w/ keeping them together (or maybe adding some others :D)

If people never took risks though half of these fish wouldn't be in our tanks haha

I think it'll be okay, as long as fish that they say you shouldn't cohab are in cohab since a small small size like those guys it should be fine! I've never heard of a group of fish going berserk on each other that grew up together

Then you are still learning the art of monsterfishkeeping.

Anything can happen but most of it doesn't happen like what you want it to...as for most apex monster fish.

Yes I am, only have been for about 3 years w/ a 6 month break in the middle (due to the sadness of losing my 1st senegal) but I am basing my opinion on tanks I've seen on here that are working out. Hell I was told that my red wolf would strip the fins off my bichir but about 8 months into keeping the 2 in the same tank only the wolf has been nipped, and not badly either. I think this small group of artamus are going to do great and I look forward to seeing em big, my friend just started keeping a few scombs together n he has no problems yet (6 months in)

i am still learning too and i've had some experiences where fish don't cohab together like I wanted it to. I put some large angelfish (my sisters) with my then baby armatus and it killed all my angelfish and all them tell had their eyes poked out. Believe me, I've always wanted to keep multiple armatus together. I actually have a chance to get 3 baby armatus right now. I only reason i didn't is because a lot of people told me it's not so wise to do it....partly because I don't want to risky my armatus getting their eyes gored at. Of course there are incidents where the cohab have certainly happened. Those people from youtube who has 2+ feet armatus usually start off with a large shoal of them. Overtime, only the cohabable ones are left. The weakers ones are usually killed.

i can't dictate the personality of the fish but armatus cohab definately isn't always pretty at the end. They can be together from 1-10 inches. Usually at a foot or so, they get super aggressive and try to dominate the tank. I keep my 11 inch armatus with some bichirs with no problem. I think armatus likes to target fast silvery fish the best (a la armatus).
