H. carpintis 'Escondido' vs 'Chairel'

Very nice. Are these current pics? You got them this past summer? As in 2014?

Actually, in checking my records I see that these pics were taken late last August but the fish were purchased in Sept 2013 (time flies). At the time or purchase they were 1.25" in size. The male is now about 3.5" and the female is a slow grower and only about 2.5". They are both holding their own in a 220 gal tank with much larger CA neighbors.

I see, so not exactly the 'stars of the show'? More or less a part of the community. Any updated pics? Are you happy with them? Seems like a pretty slow growth rate to have had them for over a year now and only grown a few inches?

NOT Escondido at all

You may be right - I'm just relaying what they were purchased as from The Wet Spot. I'm not overly clear on the various designations of H. carpintis because there seems to be a lot of overlap and ambiguity, at least from my vantage point. The spots on the fish I posted are smaller than on the Rio Hondo variety I purchased from CofA. Those fish are now listed on the CofA website as being "Escondido Rio Hondo".

Here is an escondido I purchased from rapps in 2009. The pic is not very good, but the fish was really attractive.
