H. carpintis 'Escondido' vs 'Chairel'

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The ones in those pics listed as from wetspot are pretty damn blue it looks like to me, just washed out terribly from the camera shot.

I'm still waiting for an accurate description as to what makes chariel/escondido/rio hondo/etc etc any different from one another being that their collections points arent far from each other at all, from what I've seen.

I see, so not exactly the 'stars of the show'? More or less a part of the community. Any updated pics? Are you happy with them? Seems like a pretty slow growth rate to have had them for over a year now and only grown a few inches?

Yes, I'm surprised by their slow growth rate - they have been surpassed by almost everything else in the tank. Still, they hold their own and make nice additions to the community. Here are two pics taken in December - not a great shot of the male though:

Below are two photos of a 6" male H. carpintis "Rio Hondo" from Cichlids of the Americas (now listed as "Escondido Rio Hondo" on the website). I purchased him around the same time the the ones from The Wet Spot (summer 2013), and he was 1.5" at the time.

(better colors because no flash is used)

The rio hondo definitely strikes me more as looking what I would expect an Escondido would look like... Much larger pearls, more turquoise coloration...
