H. Cyanoguttatus or H. Carpintus? Help IDing Texas cichlid

Hi folks! Just purchased this little guy and the LFS was not certain of whether this juvenile was a texas cichlid or a "green" texas cichlid. Any help on that and possible sex greatly appreciated. Also, adult plan is for a "wet pet"in a 75 gallon. Will this tank size be sufficient? Cheers!

Carpintis. H. Cyanno has smaller blue dots, Carpi has larger turquoise. Sometimes called Pearlscale, but shouldnt be referred to as Green Texas, because it isnt. 75g great for Carpi, wont get bigger than 10ins for male and prob 8 for female. Smaller and far less aggressive than a real Tex. Nice pickup, they are a beautiful fish

Agreed with all except aggression part. my carpi is my most aggressive fish and I have a cyano as well. I think it depends on the temperament of the fish. Great fish for a wet pet even though he is a little jerk my carpi is my favorite.
 
Thanks for the replies! He is getting along well with my 4 Acaras in a 75 gallon for now, but I am already prepared to place him in his own 75 once he becomes aggressive.
 
Yes be prepared. Check out my thread I started today. I had one living with a GT and a severum that are much larger than my Texas and over night he decided to randomly kick the crap out of my other fish. He was very passive before living with small Firemouth, who he still ignores. Now I have to decide who to get rid of. I am almost certain I am keeping the Texas.

Sweet fish! Definitely a Carpintis! I have a few that are around 4" now and very fun to watch. Mine are in with a Green Terror and are doing fine. Sure they challenge each other from time to time but nothing bad so far. Mine are also in a 125 gallon so the extra room may be what is keeping them from killing each other off
 
I'd say hybrid of the 2. It's pearls are so uniform and spaced out similar to a cyano texas but has the color of a carpintis green texas, especially on the cheek area. All carpintis that I've encountered form some type of pattern with their pearls especially on their cheeks.

"Texas cichlids" from a lfs I would never buy what your getting is questionable, looks like carpintis but who knows, here is a pic of a wild H. Cyanoguttatus "Zacate" caught in Laredo, Tx....
