I suspect the fish was turned in by a customer as such places hardly ever stock large fish.An employee has probably taken ownership of the catfish and is temporarily holding it there for some reason, hence the lack of a sale price.I'd say it is still worth a shot to make an offer though.
Well it's been two years and the fish's situation has not improved any. This time I just politely asked the employees there if there was any way they could set up a larger tank for it...at least a 75 or something.
This is LOCHNESS.
He was given to us by a customer.
He is not for sale!
So you correctly predicted two years ago that it was a customer who dropped it off. I couldn't take the fish if I wanted to now. No room in my tanks for that beast. But i assume many people have asked because of the prominent not for sale sign. There must be a long term employee there that is dedicated to the fish though.
I agree. But like I said I'm in no position now. My 150 is fully stocked and 200 is undergoing repairs. I suppose I could set up one of my spare 75s for him but that wouldn't improve things much.
To their credit the fish appears healthy and active though. They must maintain the tank well. I might send some emails urging them to set up a larger tank though. They have 120s sitting around that they never sell.
What a story. 2 years. And that big ugly statue. What can you say? It's their conversation piece and they want to keep it. Post their email address. I would gladly email them. Best tactic is they are gently made aware that the fish needs a larger tank and many are aware of what is going on. Like you say, persuade them to use a larger tank that they have. But really they need a deeper tank. Do they have tanks big enough front to back?
