Thanks loads for the replies! didn't expect it to go off like this.

Literally just hand fed my ray about a minute ago, then decided to jump on this thread!. Yes Whitebait is a small fish, I feed my ray Hikari Pellets / Prawn / Whitebait / Bloodworms currently.. and he is very happy. For me personally I totally agree with it all being about fun, and getting to interact with my ray sure is fun.

I have been using the method of letting him come up to the very top of the glass. and just have the food pushed against the glass so he can cup it like mentioned. Going very well! not feeding time is all that more exciting.

The ray is a Motoro x Pearl, fair few videos of my current fish on my channel http://www.youtube.com/user/Billybongsterhut?feature=mhee if you wanted to see him.

Thanks a lot

Loving the video.. Active and healthy ray!!

Thanks! I appreciate it. I sort of dived head first into ray keeping, this is my first fish keeping outing all together... but with loads of reading and forums such as this, I am learning daily.

He really is a healthy fella..

I hand feed Tilapia fillet all the time but I cut it in long strips :) I keep my hand out of the water too. How would you hand feed a pellet with out getting bit? It's not fair to the fish, how is it going to be able to tell your fingers from the pellet? Just an odd question?

I hand-fed my retic ray small pieces of shrimp by holding it between the tips of my fingers and he always got the food and not my fingers. But now that he is in a deep tank i cannot reach to hand feed him any longer =/

I might be alone on this one but I've never even considered hand feeding my rays. I don't hand feed my other pets dogs, cat etc. Maybe I'm missing something?

why would you want to hand feed if the ray gets spooked when feeding it may always be scared when your hand goes in the tank after

say you hands are not clean and you poision the ray with soap even if you wash your hands before feeding

just so you can treat your rays like a puppy if you want a dog go buy one

I could die any day doing my job but it doesn't prevent me from doing it. Why would I worry about a sting, why do I climb 200 feet in the air, why do I hang 200 feet in the air out of a crane and cage, why do people base jump or skydive or why do people swim with sharks? Because they enjoy it.....:grinyes: As for as contaminating the tank, if I didn't reach in, it would never get cleaned.
