hand guns

If you mean it looks like a Glock cause it is a polymer framed pistol like a glock then yes. The grip safety and grip angle is very similar to a 1911. More comfortable IMO.

You cant really go wrong with either as the Glock's kaboom problem is blown out of porportion (no pun intended) lol!

Heh not sure you can overstate something like a small steel cased bomb going of in a manner you dont want. But it's the sloppy low quality engineering that gets me. They deliberately bored the firing chamber larger to make the feeding mroe reliable. That works but its the less safe easier way. Making the parts all line up correctly in the first place is the better way. Just my personal view but I dont want corners cut on something that im betting my life on under certain circumstances.

In general terms the xD does look fairly similar to the glocks. But yeah the grip feels more like a 1911 which is better imo. The xD is a great gun though and having the backup of the grip safety is nice. The trigger only safety on a glock makes me nervous. Seems like it would be easy to screw up holstering it and discharge the gun. IE hanging the trigger on the holster somehow etc. Yeah probably not real likely for someone who knows basic firearm safety but still a grip safety is nice.

is that grip safety on the xd reliable, those guns are like 425 in my town, seems like a great price to me.I see lots of good reveiws on them.Hey by the way,my colt 45 likes to eject the shells at my forehead moreso than not.I heard they can make a little notch in it that would help them fly to the side better. One time it landed between my glasses and my eyebrow and burned a perfect image of the shell into my face. What do you guys think.

I put around 800 flawless rounds of cheap Winchester White Box through my XD-9 with out a hiccup. Ive NEVER heard of an XD having problems.

$425 is a GREAT price! I purchased mine right after the ban with two HI-CAP magazines, holster, hard case, and loader for $399. They are going for $500-550 new now!

While firing a MAc 10 or uzi (im not sure not a common gun it was a 9mm full auto) the butt plate flew off the back, and the buffering rod shot out landing about 150 yards behind us. it really was not funny, that rod may have gone right thru my buddys head.

I get hot brass stuck between my neck and collar all the time while firing on the range at close quarters. my ex wife used to accuse me of having hickies...

point being, its not uncommon, THATS WHY YOU WEAR THE GLASSES Right.

If you get anything less than a bazooka... you are a wuss!

Ha... no seriously though, I have both a Sig 245 (sub-compact .45 - law enforcement model in some states in the late 90's) and a Mossberg 500 12 gague for home protection. Both are great options for different reasons. For one, if you rack a round through a shotgun in a quiet house... anyone... ANYONE knows that is the international signal for "time to exit this house quickly". I don't care if you are a bandit, intruder, crackhead or just a lost neighboor in the wrong house, that sound... that unmistakeable sound of a shotgun being racked... that will get you up and out in a hurry. From there, I'll either pursue anyone stupid enough to stay inside with the shotgun itself (bird loads are recommended as a slug will probably kill your assailant, the neighboors, their kids, their dog, and put holes through the car parked outside, the car next to that, and the one next to that, and pretty much anything else in a straight line in front of the barrel. If not the shotgun, then I would probably prefer the .45 as it wont go through most walls with hollow points. Remember... a .45 was not invented for piercing power but instead for punch. If you want something that will go through anything, get a .357 sig, or a .357 magnum... if you want to sit 'em down with a shot, get a .45. Because of the weight and velocity of the ammo, it packs more punch when it hits its target. So thats my recommendation for home defense.

For target practice, consider this. The Sig 239 (I think thats right) is available in .357 sig, .38 and .40 calibers. I believe the .357 and .38 use the same clip, and the same gun can fire all three calibers just by changing out the barrel (and/or the clip if shooting .40 cal). I guess I just like the idea of using .38 ammo at the range and then swapping the barrell out for the .357 for home defense (although again, if worried about it going through walls, the .357 is NOT what you want... I have concrete firewalls in my home).

Its like cars too as far as Glock, Berretta, Sig, Colt, etc... Some people like Chevy, some people like Ford, some people like Ferrari. My local range allows you to rent and try just about every make/model imaginable. I recommend you do the same to find out what you really enjoy shooting. I've shot them all, and I still always come back to a Sig Sauer product. Its just what I personally like to shoot.

Oh, and as for the shells to the face... my Sig ejects almost straight up and the shells are known to hit me dead center in the top of my head pretty often. Not hot enough to burn, but will still make you jump if you are not used to it.

Good luck, happy shooting!

Umm...no, the bullet would just fall out of the casing.

Its not the "explosion" that causes the bullet speed up rather it is the gases created by the explosion. The gases have only one way to escape from the casing and out the chamber and that is by pushing the bullet out the barrel.

Back to the OP, really look into the XD series. Great pistols for a good price!

I know, I know, I was being a smart ass.... I know how a gun works...
