I am staying in the dorms. it is an old motel and I have stayed the night in my room before as my roommate will be my sister's boyfriend. They will allow the tank and my other tanks too. It is not a problem.

Not a problem.

first of all a 55 is no biggy. Empty they are light a hell. When you move it get some coolers. Plastic or styrafoam (sorry if i spelled that wrong) doesnt matter. Get some battery powered bubblers. I kept a large tank while at school a 75 gallon. Next why would you wanna keep fish you catch out of a river or lake. The odds of it staying alive very slim. If you able to keep it alive then you probly wont be able to add fish to the tank because you have to worry about wild fish aggression and diseases. Most river fish need temps in the 60's so tropical fish cant be kept with them. If i were you i would bring the tank for maybe a year and you will see how much of a hassle it is and you wont wanna do it again. I did it for 2 and then i just kept a 20gallon at school while i grew some fish out then brought them home to put in the bigger tank. I;m sure you can get your parents to help ya whith feeding and doing water changes and stuff. If not dont bother keeping the fish. Repeated moving will eventually kill most fish because u will interupt the bacteria. Its rough i know to not have your fish with you but if your only a few hours away you'll manage to get home every once and a while. Go get a smaller cheap tank and get some babies and grow them out or get small fish that can stay in a 20 or 30 gallon like a dozen exodons. awesom fish

I wouldn't worry about moving the 55 as far as stress goes or the weight of it in the dorms, I kept 3 55 gal tanks in my dorm without issue and the building was not the most structurally sound.

As far as fish goes, rainbows, cons, etc etc would work. Pair of Salvinis would be awesome.

Thanks guys for your input!

I just thought green sunfish would be hardy. and free...

I have the battery powered bubbles. I know I'm taking 2 tens and probably a 5.

5x yellow labs...i'm in college to and have had to move my fish back and forth...my roommates gf bought it i HATE that little gremlin but he has been probably the best at the moves...even survived the death row 5 gallon bucket lol

a yellow lab lol....ur supposed to keep them in groups of 5....I'm waiting for my Endli to eat it... He just ate my new jardini last night but some kids from the team pitched on it...

I think any fish can be moved around, as long as you do it carefully each time... i mean in all honesty, fish go through quite a few moves over quite a distance when they come out of the wild... now i know there are more than likely a lot of casualties... but my point is if done correctly, the fish shouldn't suffer too much???
