could you please post this documented proof of flowers being bred? cause i have yet to hear of any captive breeding of flower rays...

an Importor that I have dealt with before say he breeds flowers in his faclities in Iquinto Peru.

a friend of mine who moved to Singapore say he has been to a breeder that does Flowers, tigers, Leos, Hens, Pearls and what ever crossbreds he can come up with.

So do I have actual hard proof no, so all my info is just hearsay. So please get off my arsh Nic.

well im not on your arsh.... your saying you have heard of them breeding.... now nobody else has poven this.... i asked for proof... your "guy" in peru breeding his peru flowers doesnt count... ive been told from people in asia that the brachura ray is being bred... do i run around saying the holy grail is being bred in captivity.. NOPE cause there is no documented proof...

yes uncle tony(tom32) hv bred his flower ray not too long ago in his pond in singapore.though the pup did not survive ,is a matter of time for the first time mother to succeed eventually.

All very interesting gentlemen. I sometimes justify the price of rays by their ability to reproduce and pay for themselves. I don't imagine I will get rich but its nice to think your hobby could support itself. Those of you that own flowers, did you get them to breed or just to have as pets? I think the same happens with Leos, pearls and henleis. I don't think anyone just buys these without intent to breed them eventually. With that said, I am not sure that size is the limitation as the person willing to invest a few grand in leos and pearls would surely be able to handle the investments a large flower would need. So I'm baffled as to why there are seemingly few efforts to breed flowers.

all the set ups that tigers bred in were massive.... you can breed leo, henlei or pearl in a 600... your not doing that with flowers or tigers...

There have been problems before with some twits having adult rays, buying young ones and then claiming to have bred them, so these days more is needed than just anecdotal stories.

so amoung those of us with some experience... what size tank/pond do you guys think a pair of flowers would breed in? what size do you guys think the flowers have to be at a minimum to breed? my male is about 15" in disc and still has teeny tiny little claspers while my marble is 8" and has fully grown and rolled claspers. do you guys think that the flower can hybridize with any ray other than a tiger? this is the best discussion ive seen in this forum in months!

First off I would like to apologize to everyone who read this thread. I did not mean to mislead anyone into believeing that flowers were captive bred. I posted information from what other people have told me in conversations with those people. I have only heard and not seen in person or pictures.

BTW, I know true flowers, P.Schroderi come from Columbia and Not Peru. The importor I have bought from, exports his live stock from Peru where his facilties are located. From what he tells me that he had successfully bred true flowers twice. I am sorry if you guys don't believe, maybe he is BSing me. Maybe I am too trusting.

Sounds like the guy is full of it. I seriously dought that someone in Peru would go thru the trouble to import a group of Flowers to breed. There are many nice rays that are just as expensive and in high demand local to Peru, Tigers, castexi's, Galaxia Otorango, ect
