Has anyone eaten oscar before??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
sometimes i see these abandon oscars good 12 inches and for cheap at local fs and im like 5 bucks .. sounds like dinner.... if we start a community for eating unwanted big fish maybe we can stop people throwing them in the wild ... im so serious on making a cookbook

I've been curious about that too. Had some rbp that I didn't want anymore and couldn't get much on trade so I thought about eating them. Didn't think piranha would taste good though.

i think it was teddy roosevelt said that pacu was the tastiest amazon fish he had... its just like veal .. their both raised in a box never allowed to walk .. and the attention to making them fat and healthy is about the same...

Eating your aquarium pets it bizarre. I'd only consider such things if the crap hit the fan and society broke down and food was unavailable and we were starving. But then, chances are the fish would have died long before it got that bad. I mean really, if people are killing each other for a can of beans after the zombie apocalypse, I'd think that our aquariums would have lost a significant number of places on our priority lists.

I don't see many folks going on armed midnight raids for large massivore pellets when they themselves are facing starvation.

BUT OTHER THAN THAT......

What is the big deal about eating wild caught or farm raised fish that just happen to be the same kinds we keep as show fish?
heck yeah, I'd grill up a clown knife I caught on a hook in aisia somewhere!
Shovel head cats, RTCs, rays, who cares? Food is food, and pets are pets.

Eat food, not pets.
Ive eaten all kinds of wild game, and if i were in a country where such things a dog and cat were common dinner items, I'd be thrilled to try that too. But no, I'd never even consider eating someones pet.

I agree. The emotional ties make the differance. I think the only thing that would stop me is if it scared someone by eating/killing something they were so attached to.

And a cookbook. I'm down. We should have a mfk cook book with all the hunters/fisher men here on the site

taste like tilapia to me, i ate everything in the east coast (NY), my motoro rays, oscars, red belly etc to name a few. all taste the same. i tried bichirs but that tasted kinda weird

Wow...WTF!! :banhim:

Just caught two rays and a shovelnose shark/guitarfish the other day ... rays are ok tender meat but shovelnose good god not being racist or anything but if only african americans knew that about em....taste just like catfish infact no after taste or fishy taste man real good. For the love of the rays I'mma release them all now, not enough meat unless it's a super huge sting ray or bat ray... poor mans scallops. But shovelnose I'm keep'n em dam good eat'n.
